Ways to Connect with an Academic Advisor

Who's my advisor?

To find out which ACC Advisor has been assigned to you, log in to Navigate360. Your Success Team can be found in the “Appointment” section under “My Team.” If you have not met with your Advisor yet, make an appointment today; it is important to your success to regularly meet with your Academic Advisor!

Academic Advisors are assigned once you have been accepted to ACC.

  • Prospective students should contact our Admissions office for support with the application and getting started next steps.
  • If you are a Concurrent Enrollment student taking college classes while in high school, you will meet with one of our Concurrent Enrollment Staff for advising. Connect with our Concurrent Enrollment department for further assistance.

Ways to Connect

Appointments

Schedule a virtual or in-person individual meeting with your academic advisor. An appointment is a one-on-one session tailored to your specific academic needs, such as course selection, major exploration, academic planning, or any other personal advising concerns. Regular appointments help ensure that you stay on track with your plan and achieve your academic goals.

What to Expect: During an appointment, your advisor will review your academic progress, answer any questions you have, and help you create or adjust your academic plan to stay on track for graduation. Be prepared to discuss any challenges you're facing or any changes to your academic goals.

When Should I Schedule an Appointment? It is best to meet with your academic advisor at least once a semester to discuss your progress or any difficulties you are facing within the semester!

  • Meeting with your specific advisor
  • New or incoming transfer students within your first semester
  • Building your schedule
  • Academic planning for more than one semester
  • Transfer and career conversations
  • Academic concerns, such as Performance Support, Suspension, or withdrawing from course(s)
  • Completion of appeals
  • Courses not counting in program

How to Schedule an Appointment: Follow our step-by-step instructions to schedule an appointment with your advisor through Navigate360. This guide will help you navigate the process and book your meeting.

Drop-Ins

Drop-in advising sessions are approximately 15 minutes long and provide an opportunity to get your quick questions answers or guidance without the need to schedule an appointment. These sessions are ideal for brief questions or urgent issues that don’t require a full 30-minute appointment.

When Should I Drop-In? Drop-ins are perfect for quick, simple questions or concerns, such as:

  • Reviews of how to use Navigate360, DegreeCheck or other academic tools
  • Quick schedule adjustments to change classes at the beginning of the semesters
  • Asking about upcoming registration deadlines or procedures
  • General information about degree requirements
  • Clarifying policies on things like appeals, withdrawals, or holds
  • Getting guidance on selecting a few courses for the next semester

What’s Not Appropriate for Drop-In? Drop-ins are not suitable for topics that require a more in-depth conversation or long-term planning, such as:

  • Review of your unofficial transcripts for your transfer credit
  • Full degree audits or comprehensive academic planning
  • Long discussions about changing your major or academic goals
  • Appeals or disciplinary actions that need detailed review (i.e. Ineligible for Financial Aid Appeal, Suspension Appeal)
  • Personal issues that may affect your academic performance (best to schedule an appointment for privacy and support)

What to Expect: During your 15-minute drop-in session, you'll get quick guidance on your immediate questions. If your issue requires more time, your advisor may suggest scheduling a full appointment for a deeper discussion.

Peer Advisor Support

Peer advisors are students who have been trained to assist their peers with common academic tasks like registration, using Navigate360, and answering general advising questions. They are a valuable resource for getting peer-to-peer guidance, especially when you need quick answers to questions that don’t require an advisor.

What to Expect: Peer advisors will be available to help with general advising questions and will guide you through basic processes like registration or navigating resources. They are not a substitute for academic advisors, but they can help you with routine inquiries.

Email

Emailing your advisor is the best option if you have a question that doesn’t require a face-to-face conversation or if you need advice on an issue that can be addressed in writing. If your question is complex or involves sensitive information, it’s best to use email so you have a record of your conversation.

When Should I Email? Email is ideal for quick questions, scheduling requests, or follow-ups after an appointment. If you're not sure whether you need an appointment, you can always email to ask for advice.

What to Expect: You can expect a response within 1-2 business days, but if your issue requires urgent attention, it’s better to call or make an appointment. Be clear and specific in your email to help your advisor provide the best response.

Call Us

Calling your advisor or the advising office is a good option if you need quick help or have questions that need immediate answers. Calls are also helpful if you prefer speaking with someone directly instead of emailing.

When Should I Call? Call if you need assistance scheduling an appointment, have a question that requires a more personal touch, or need immediate assistance.

What to Expect: When you call, you may speak with your advisor directly or leave a voicemail. Be prepared with your student ID and a clear description of your issue. You’ll receive assistance or a call back as soon as possible. If your issue requires a longer discussion, the advisor may suggest scheduling an appointment.
