Vanessa has a BA in Spanish from the University of Washington and a MA in Geography from the University of Maryland. She most recently worked for the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment as a Cultural Navigation Program Coordinator and the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment as a Grant Administrator. She also worked at Emily Griffith Technical College for six years as an ESL Program Advisor, Enrollment and Transitions Manager, and Outreach and Enrollment Coordinator.

Vanessa spent a year as a high school exchange student in Quito, Ecuador and a semester in Granada, Spain as an undergraduate student. After graduation, Vanessa joined the Peace Corps and served for three years in Panama. Since then she has lived and worked in several countries including Panama, Bolivia, and Thailand. Vanessa moved to Colorado in 2014 and enjoys gardening, reading, backpacking, and spending time with her family in Littleton.
