Next Steps for Holds and Appeals

Good Academic Standing

When you’re in Good Academic Standing, no extra steps are needed — you can keep registering for classes, focusing on your studies, and working toward your goals. Just continue doing what you’re doing, and remember your advisor is always here if you need support or guidance. Keep up the good work!

Academic Alert

If you are placed on Academic Alert, you will be connected with a dedicated advisor who specializes in academic support and recovery. This advisor will work with you one-on-one to help you get back on track, build stronger study habits, and make a plan for future success.

Performance Support

If you are placed on Performance, you will be connected with a dedicated advisor who focuses on academic coaching and recovery. This advisor will support you one-on-one as you work to get back on track, build strong academic habits, and create a plan to succeed moving forward.

Performance Support Workshop

When placed on Performance Support, a hold has been put on your account that prevents any registration tasks (adding, dropping, changing your schedule or withdrawing from courses). Please complete the following workshop, as well as the verification form after watching the video to have the hold removed from your account. Allow 1 - 2 business days for your form to be reviewed and the hold removed.

Please note: We also strongly encourage you to meet with your advisor to further discuss registration and next steps.

Complete the Performance Support Workshop Verification Form. Your hold will be removed within 2 business days.

Performance Improving

If you are placed on Performance Improving, it means you’re making real progress toward good academic standing. You’ll keep working with your dedicated academic advisor to build on that progress, stay focused on your goals, and get support along the way. This status shows your growth—and we’re here to help you keep moving forward.

Academic Suspension and Reinstatement

Academic Suspension

If you are placed on Academic Suspension, you will keep working with your academic advisor and also be connected with a Success Advocate for extra support. Together, this team will help you understand what challenges got in your way, make a plan for your success, and guide you toward getting back into good academic standing.

You have two options while on suspension:

  1. Submit an appeal to request to stay enrolled without taking a semester off.
    • Your appeal will be reviewed by a special committee of advising staff.
  2. Sit out for one semester and return afterward through the reinstatement process.
    • You’ll meet with a committee member to go over your next steps.

To appeal or start the suspension appeal reinstatement process, complete this form.

If you're already registered for the upcoming semester, you’ll have a short grace period to submit your appeal. Through this expedited process, an appointment with a committee member is not a requirement; howver, you can request to meet with a committee member to talk more about your situation.

  • If your appeal is approved, you can stay in your classes and may be asked to make schedule changes.
  • If your appeal is denied or you miss the deadline, you will be dropped from your classes for the semester.

If you are not currently enrolled or if you miss the short grace period to appeal while enrolled, you can still submit an appeal by the final deadline. Please review the email sent by the Advising & Transfer Services Office for all important deadlines and next steps or contact us directly for more support.

If your appeal is denied, you may request a secondary review by Advising and Student Affairs leadership.

Strategies for Academic Success

  • Reflect on Your Situation
    • Identify the challenges that contributed to your academic progress, such as time management, personal issues, or difficulty with coursework.
    • Be honest about your habits and areas needing improvement and write them down to create a clearer picture of what needs change.
  • Meet with an Academic Advisor
    • Schedule a meeting to review your academic status and understand the requirements for returning to good standing.
    • Work with your advisor to develop a personalized success plan, focusing on manageable course loads and resources for support.
  • Utilize Campus Resources
    • Seek help from the Tutoring and Learning Center, writing labs, or study groups to strengthen your academic skills.
    • Attend workshops on topics like time management, note-taking, or test preparation.
  • Create a Plan
    • Use a planner or digital tool to organize your class schedule, assignment deadlines, and study time.
    • Break larger tasks into smaller, actionable steps and set daily or weekly goals to maintain focus
  • Build a Support System
    • Share your goals with friends, family, or mentors who can encourage and hold you accountable. A peer advisor might also be a good resource to support you in your academic journey to provide their tips and tricks.
    • Connect with classmates or student organizations for peer support and a sense of community.
