The Power of Work-Based Learning
At the ACC Sturm Collaboration Campus, we believe amazing things happen when education meets real-world experience. One of ACC’s strategic priorities is Community-Driven Workforce Collaboration which means we’re all about working with partners like you to create hands-on learning that meets real workforce needs. Our WBL Experiences help students bring classroom knowledge to life, build job-ready skills, and explore their career paths—while giving your organization fresh energy and future talent. How it Works
As an Employer Partner, you can help us provide students with the ability to Learn About Work (career awareness & exploration), Learn Through Work (career preparation), and Learn At Work (career training). Each experience you offer helps students obtain job-ready skills while strengthening your pipeline with qualified future employees. Step 1 - Explore Work-Based Learning Opportunities at the Sturm Collaboration Campus
Take a moment to review each WBL Experience we offer. This will help you make informed selections in the next step, where you’ll indicate which Experiences you’d like to learn more about.
Learning ABOUT Work is the foundational stage where individuals are introduced to the world of work. It focuses on building career awareness and broad exposure to different industries, occupations, and workplace expectations. Learning ABOUT Work experiences include:
- Career Fairs
Engage directly with motivated job seekers and showcase your organization’s opportunities. - Industry Speakers
Share your expertise by presenting at events and inspiring the next generation of professionals. - Informational Interviews
Participate in one-on-one or small group discussions to give students valuable insights into your industry. - Mentoring
Guide students through career development by becoming a trusted mentor and advisor. - Worksite Tours
Host small groups of students for behind-the-scenes tours, offering a firsthand look at your workplace.
Learning THROUGH Work involves structured, hands-on experiences where individuals learn by doing real work in a real-world setting. These opportunities combine productive work with ongoing learning and supervision, allowing participants to develop both technical and professional skills aligned with their field of study or career goals. Learning THROUGH Work experiences include:
- Clinical Experiences
Support students by offering hands-on clinical opportunities that build practical skills. - Internships
Provide short-term, entry-level work experiences that prepare students for their careers. - Industry-Sponsored Projects
Collaborate on real-world tasks funded by industry to give students meaningful, applied learning experiences. - Project-Based Learning
Support hands-on learning by providing real projects that challenge and develop student skills.
Learning AT Work refers to career training that takes place directly at the worksite, enabling participants to develop and refine occupation-specific skills through real-world application. These experiences are typically business-led and supported through partnerships with intermediaries, education and training providers, and workforce development programs to ensure comprehensive skill development and career progression. Learning AT Work experiences include:
- Apprenticeships
Collaborate with us to design customized apprenticeship programs tailored to your organization’s needs or to promote your existing programs to our students. - Externships
Work with our faculty to provide industry insights, develop new skills, and build employer connections—enhancing teaching and boosting workforce readiness for our students. - Employee Development Programs
Together, we create customized skill-building training designed to strengthen your workforce and support your organizational goals (upskilling, reskilling, leadership programs, skill badging, etc).
