ASCENT, TREP, and PTECH
Explore the option of a tuition-free year (or 2) of college after high school through ASCENT, TREP, and PTECH!
What is the ASCENT Program?
A tuition-free year of college after high school here at ACC!
Accelerating Students through Concurrent Enrollment (ASCENT) is a 5th-year high school program where eligible students who have successfully completed at least 9 college credits prior to high school graduation can receive 2 semesters (Fall and Spring) of college for free by pushing back their graduation year by 1 year. While tuition is covered by the school district, students may be responsible for the cost of textbooks and fees – check with your district for more information.
Please refer to your school district coordinator and/or your high school counselor for district-specific ASCENT eligibility requirements and application information.
What is the TREP Program?
The Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) program is a 5th and 6th-year high school program where eligible students planning to become teachers can receive 2 years of college for free by pushing back their graduation year by 2 years. While tuition is covered by the school district, students may be responsible for the cost of textbooks and fees – check with your district for more information.
Please refer to your school district coordinator and/or your high school counselor for district-specific TREP eligibility requirements and application information.
How Do I Get Started with ASCENT or TREP?
In 8 easy steps, you can earn your first year (or two) of college credits for free through your district!
- Talk with your district representative or school counselor to learn more about your district’s requirements and policies. Then, complete the ASCENT or TREP application with the school district. Note: requirements and approval are decided solely by the school district, not ACC.
- Once your school district has approved you to participate in ASCENT, TREP, or PTECH, complete the ACC application online. If you already have an active ACC account, you do not need to apply again, and you may skip to step 4.
- 3-5 business days after you have completed your ACC application, you will receive your acceptance letter with your virtual Student ID card and ACC S#.
- Complete the required Online Student Orientation on your myACC portal (under the “Students” page). It takes about one hour and provides important information for success.
- Send any other college transcripts and/or AP, IB, or CLEP scores to ACC through your previous college or College Board. Note: only credits that apply to your selected program (or prerequisites) will be transferred to ACC.
- Once your school district notifies ACC that you have been approved (typically in May), you will receive an email (to your ACC student email) inviting you to sign up for a required an ASCENT or TREP Advising and Registration Session. Do not attend a General Advising and Registration Session through the Advising office; wait for the email inviting you to an ASCENT / TREP-specific session.
- At your ASCENT or TREP Advising and Registration Session, you’ll learn important information for succeeding at ACC. You’ll also register for classes.
- Use the resources you’ve learned about to Move Mountains and succeed in your classes!

What is the PTECH Program?
Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools (P-TECH) is a public-private partnership to prepare thousands of Colorado students for high-skill jobs of the future.
- P-TECH is an innovative partnership between a school district, a community college(s), and one or more local high-growth industry employer(s).
- Students begin in 9th grade and go through 14th grade (i.e. high school and two equivalent years of college) for a total of 6 years.
- As such, students graduate with both a high school diploma and an industry-recognized associate degree, in addition to gaining relevant workplace skills.
- The associate degree is in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) focused high-growth industry.
- Students receive intensive student support services, in addition to mentoring, job shadowing, internships, pre-apprenticeships, and other workplace educational experiences.
- P-TECH is open to all students, with a special focus on encouraging enrollment of students who are socio-economically and racially diverse, first-generation college students, English language learners, and students with disabilities.
At ACC, we partner with STEM High School, Highlands Ranch to offer the PTECH program. Connect with STEM or our CE Staff to learn more!
