Steps to Getting Started By Your Student Type
Learn more about how to get started at ACC by reviewing the steps based on your student type.
We know you are excited to register for classes. Please note that it can take a few weeks to go through this checklist.
New, First-Time Student
Welcome to ACC! Starting college is an exciting step, and we’re here to guide you through the process. As a brand new college student, we want to ensure that you are getting the right information along the way, we are here to assist!
You are considered a new student if you have graduated high school, completed the GED or a state-approved assessment or equivalency exam (HiSET/TASC) and have not attended college before.
Steps to Get Started
- Apply to ACC
- Once your application has been processed, you will get an acceptance letter with your login information including your Student ID Number (S#) and password into myACC (the student portal).
- Access myACC with your student ID number (S#)
- myACC is your one-stop place to access all of the tools and information that you will need as a student at ACC. Access to myACC will allow you to complete your online orientation and getting familiar with the system.
- Apply for Financial Aid
Apply for Financial Aid by completing your FAFSA. An academic year starts with the Fall semester.- The ACC school code is 001346.
Complete the FAFSA as soon as possible; it can take up to 6 weeks to process and get aid awarded. - If you need help paying for college and cannot apply for federal financial aid, you can apply for state financial aid using the Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA). If you need assistance, contact ACC's Financial Aid team.
- The ACC school code is 001346.
- Send Relevant Test Scores for Placement into English and Math
- It is very likely that your program may entail English, math, or English / math readiness to register for the courses. There are a couple of ways to get your placement into English and math courses:
- High school transcripts (5 year expiration)
- ACCUPLACER (5 year expiration)
- SAT or SAT (5 year expiration)
*Scores listed above can be sent to our Testing Center at testingcenter [at] arapahoe [dot] edu (testingcenter[at]arapahoe[dot]edu) for processing. - Prior College Credit:
- Advanced Placement
- International Baccalaureate
- Exams like CLEP, DSST, UXCEL
*An official transcript or record from the provider or institution will be necessary for formal evaluation of college credit.
- It is very likely that your program may entail English, math, or English / math readiness to register for the courses. There are a couple of ways to get your placement into English and math courses:
- Resolve Holds on Your Account - Complete Part 1 & Part 2 of Orientation
- As a new student, you are required to go through a 2-part orientation. The holds on your account will be Mandatory Orientation Required (Part 1) and New Student Advising Required (Part 2).
- Online Orientation (Part 1) - helps you understand key campus resources, policies, and your next steps through your myACC portal under the Orientation card.
- Advising & Registration Session (Part 2) - a group session with Academic Advisors and provides a more in-depth look at the tools available to support with registration and overall how to succeed in college through resources. Avoid scheduling a "First Semester Advising" appointment until you are registered and getting ready for your second semester.
- As a new student, you are required to go through a 2-part orientation. The holds on your account will be Mandatory Orientation Required (Part 1) and New Student Advising Required (Part 2).
- Complete the D2L Orientation Video
- Watch the D2L Orientation video to familiarize yourself with how to use the platform for your courses.
- Review the D2L Start Guide
- The D2L Start Guide will walk you through the basic functions of D2L, like checking grades, submitting assignments, and participating in discussions.
Transferring into ACC (Prior College Credit)
Transferring into ACC (Prior College Credit)
Welcome, transfer students! Let’s make sure your credits transfer smoothly to ACC. You are considered a transfer student if you have graduated high school, have completed a state-approved assessment or equivalency exam (GED, HiSET / TASC) and have completed college-level courses at another college or university.
Steps to Get Started:
- Apply to ACC
Be sure to note on your application that you have completed college level credits and have attended a college or university prior to ACC. Once your application has been processed, you will get an acceptance letter with your login information including your Student ID Number (S#) and password to myACC. - Access myACC with your student ID number (S#)
myACC is your one-stop place to access all of the tools and information that you will need as a student at ACC. - Send Official Transcripts to ACC’s Records and Enrollment Services Office
- Make sure your official transcripts from all previous colleges or universities are sent directly to ACC. This is required to evaluate your transfer credits. Transcript evaluations will take 3-5 business days for processing.
- Apply for Financial Aid
- Apply for Financial Aid by completing your FAFSA. An academic year starts with the Fall semester.

- Complete Transfer Student Online (TSO) Orientation
- Complete ACC’s online orientation to get familiar with your registration process, financial aid, resources on campus and your next steps. Find the online orientation in myACC.
- Meet with an Academic Advisor for a First Semester Transfer Advising Appointment
- Once you have completed orientation and sent official transcripts, you will receive a message to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor to review your transfer credits after your evaluation, discuss your academic goals, and plan your first semester at ACC.
Guest Student / Summer at ACC - One Semester
If you’re a guest student, you’re here temporarily to take a class at ACC for one semester. Your account will only stay active for that term only. If you plan to attend ACC for more than 1 semester, you will need to re-apply.
Steps to Get Started:
- Review the Course Schedule
- See what options are available to you within the semester that you are applying as a guest student. Keep in mind, course availability may vary from semester to semester. Review the course schedule.
- Apply for Admission as a Guest Student
- Fill out the application for guest students at ACC and indicate that you plan on being at ACC for one semester only. Once your application has been processed, you will get an acceptance letter with your log-in information including your Student ID Number and password into myACC.
- Send Unofficial Transcripts or Other Reports
- Make sure to send any unofficial transcripts to help facilitate registration. Also consider any AP, IB or CLEP score reports that would also need to be reviewed. Check the courses requisite or requisite requirements through the Course Catalog. You will need to meet ACC's prerequisite, requites and placement requirements to register into the course. Submit your unofficial transcripts or connect with your academic advisor.
- Register for Classes
- Check with your home institution to ensure that the courses will transfer back to your degree program. Transferology can be a resource to find a replacement course.
- Register for your classes in myACC in the Registration Tools card and Add/Drop Classes.
- Review this tutorial on how to register through the add / drop section of your myACC portal.
- Meet with an Academic Advisor (Optional)
- If you’re unsure about course selection or transferability, schedule an appointment with an advisor for guidance. Schedule by calling 303.797.5664.
- Send an Official Transcript
- Once you have completed the course(s), and your final grades have posted. Remember to send an official transcript from ACC to your home institution for formal evaluation of the credits that you have completed. You can send your transcripts the following ways:

- Electronic official transcripts through Parchment will be $3 to send.
- Once you have completed the course(s), and your final grades have posted. Remember to send an official transcript from ACC to your home institution for formal evaluation of the credits that you have completed. You can send your transcripts the following ways:
Returning Students
If you’ve been away from ACC for 3 or more consecutive semesters, you’ll need to re-apply before coming back. You will be considered a re-admit if you took time off from ACC and have not completed any additional college credit while away.
Steps to Get Started:
- Reapply for Admission
- Once your application has been processed, you will get an acceptance letter with your log-in information including your Student ID Number and password into myACC. Your Student ID Number (S#) and Student Email will be the same from when you first attended ACC. Once in your myACC portal, be sure to continuously check your student email.
- Select the same major that you had declared or a different option. Keep in mind, reapplying to ACC will update your catalog year and there may be changes that are new to the degree. There is no way to declare an older catalog year.
- Once your application has been processed, you will get an acceptance letter with your log-in information including your Student ID Number and password into myACC. Your Student ID Number (S#) and Student Email will be the same from when you first attended ACC. Once in your myACC portal, be sure to continuously check your student email.
- Check for Holds on Your Account
- Log-in to Navigate360 to see if any holds might block your registration. Holds will be found within the Explore Page. If you find any, contact the office listed to get them cleared.
- Need help? Contact our Academic Advising office at 303.797.5664 to get pointed in the right direction.

- Face the unexpected?
- If you had something unexpected the last semester of attendance that impacted your ability to attend classes, consider completing an Extenuating Circumstance Appeal. If approved supports with a tuition reimbursement and an administrative withdraw to give you a fresh start for your next semester at ACC.
- Schedule an Advising Appointment
- Meet with an academic advisor to talk about your return. This is a great time to review any program or policy changes since you last attended. Schedule If you were on suspension before, this step is extra important.
- Submit Suspension Appeal (if applicable)
- If you were previously suspended, you’ll need to submit an appeal to be allowed back. As you are registering, you may get an Academic Standing Prevents registration error. Your advisor will help you with the forms and guide you through making a plan for success.
After Registration
Pay Tuition
- View payment deadlines, see your monthly invoices, and pay for courses through the myACC Student Finance tab. Make sure you pay before the deadline or sign up for a payment plan before the deadline. If you do not meet payment deadlines, you will be dropped from your courses.
Buy Books
Set Up Your Student Email
- Login to myACC and click on the envelope icon in the upper left corner. All email communications must be done through your student email. Don't forget to upload your student ID photo.
Save Your Electronic ACC Student ID
- Your Electronic ACC ID Card came in your acceptance email.
- Print it, or take a screenshot of it and retain it on your phone.
- Contact the Records & Enrollment Services office if you are having difficulty printing or saving.
Download ACC Apps
Download important ACC apps to get campus alerts, make appointments, and get important updates and reminders.
Get a Parking Pass
- Get your Parking Pass from Campus Police or the Sturm Collaboration Campus Welcome Desk. You will need your receipt from the Cashier's Office or from your online payment. Passes are $25 for Fall or Spring semester or $40 for an annual pass.
