Fuglei, Garcia, Husum & Terpstra Honored as Employees of the Year

Monica Fuglei, Delcia Garcia, Jennifer Husum and Rebecca Terpstra were all honored as Arapahoe Community College’s 2020-21 Employees of the Year during the virtual Colorado Community College System (CCCS) Commitment to Excellence Awards presentation on March 10.

Fuglei was selected as ACC’s Faculty of the Year for her dedication to inclusivity, equity, increasing student success, and facilitating an environment where all feel welcome. As the English Department Chair, she works tirelessly to help develop the faculty and instructors in her department. Fuglei, whose teaching career (19 years) includes positions at the University of Nebraska Omaha and Dana College, came to ACC in 2005 as an adjunct instructor and was hired as full-time faculty in 2014. She was recognized as Distinguished Faculty - and earned a Teacher Recognition Award from the Boettcher Foundation - in 2019. Fuglei serves on the Inclusive Excellence Council, the Open Educational Resources Committee, and the Supplemental Academic Instruction Task Force.

Delcia Garcia

Garcia (Administrative Assistant III - School of Health and Public Services) is being recognized as ACC’s Classified Employee of the Year for her exemplary work ethic, selfless commitment to helping students and colleagues, upbeat and positive attitude, and dedication to supporting multiple Deans and departments. Garcia, who has amassed nearly a decade of service at ACC (2007-14; 2018-present), is now a two-time recipient of this award (2012-13). She currently serves as the Classified Assembly Secretary and is a member of the Strategic Planning Coordinating Council. Garcia began working in the CCCS in 2002 and has also held positions at CCD and RRCC. She holds certifications for Admin I, II, III, and Program Assistant.

Husum is being recognized as ACC's Administrator of the Year for her dedication to ensuring that all students and employees are consistently served at the highest level in a manner that makes them feel welcomed, valued and appreciated. Husum, whose official title is Associate Dean of Students for Equity and Compliance, also serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, the Equal Opportunity Coordinator, and the ADA/504 Coordinator. She teaches AAA 101, serves as a Phi Theta Kappa advisor, and is a member of the CCCS Student Code of Conduct Committee. Additionally, Husum chairs the ACC Cares Team and the Regulatory Compliance Committee and is co-chair for the Culture of Respect taskforce. This spring marks Husum’s 10th year at ACC.

Rebecca Terpstra

Terpstra was selected as ACC’s All-College Instructor of the Year for going above and beyond with teaching and assisting students, developing engaging and innovative instruction, and coordinating the Computer Aided Design department. In addition to her role as an instructor for CAD and Interior Design, Terpstra took over as the CAD Program Chair in 2020. She is a LinkedIn Learning instructor and author (SketchUp Pro), as well as a SketchUp Basecamp presenter and instructor. Terpstra, who has been an instructor at ACC for five-and-a-half years, also serves as an adjunct advisor for ACC's student chapter of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers). She is currently pursuing her BFA (Interior Architecture and Design) from Academy of Art University.
