Public Health Transfer Major, AA - Academic Plan

This program is designed to transfer to one of the following bachelor's degree programs: Bachelor of Arts in Public Health at Fort Lewis College, Bachelor of Arts in Public Health at University of Colorado Denver, or Bachelor of Science in Human Services at University of Northern Colorado.


Public Health students gain an interdisciplinary foundation in biology, psychology, and communication that equips them with the fundamental skills needed to further their health education.


A full-time student can complete this Associate of Arts (AA) degree in two years. Career paths in the public health workforce are diverse and include epidemiology, environmental health, occupational health, health education, and leadership in community health. The current and projected growth of public health careers is strong. To be successful, a student should have a passion for promoting health and well-being in communities as well as in vulnerable populations.

Program Outcomes

A broad and diverse science and liberal arts foundation that prepares students to transfer to a 4-year college or university to pursue advanced studies in public health or closely related fields.

  • * This course requires college level readiness as measured by Accuplacer, ACT, or SAT scores; approved high school course work that is less than five years old; or successful completion of appropriate college-readiness course.
  • ** Students have 2 options to meet the Natural & Physical Requirement (8-10 credits). Option 1: student takes BIO 1111 and BIO 1112 in sequence in different semesters. Option 2: student chooses 2 courses from BIO 1004, BIO 1005, and ANT 1005 and takes them in different semesters.
  • *** PSY 2440 offered all semesters. PSY 2333 offered Fall and Summer. PSY 2552 offered Fall and Spring. Please note course availability is subject to change.
  • ENG 1022 pre-requisite is either ENG 1021 or ENG 1031. ENG 2001 pre-requisite is ENG 1022.
  • 14-16 Credits of Electives are required (choose in consultation with a program advisor at the receiving four-year institution).
  • AAA 1001 – College 101: Student Experience is required for all new college students seeking degrees or transfer.
  • BIO 1016 - Introduction to Human Disease can be used to replace PH 250 – Health and Disease at Fort Lewis College.

  • In order to meet program requirements, students registered for ENG 1021 or ENG 1031 must also register for ENG 0094 unless they can demonstrate otherwise meeting the ENG 0094 standard through assessment testing, prior college coursework, or recent high school coursework.
