If you answered yes to any of these questions there is an easy and quick online program that might be perfect for you! The Public Health Pre-Apprenticeship Program provides an introduction to the public health field along with exploration of 13 health-related careers! The time commitment to complete this program is approximately 3 to 4 hours at your own pace. The program ends on October 1st, so there’s plenty of time to complete the program and reap the benefits!

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased awareness for the field of public health and the important role that public health and health care professionals play in caring for our communities. As the need to grow a robust public health workforce continues in Colorado, and across the nation, the Public Health Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a free online program created to provide an introduction to the public health field. Participants will explore health-related careers through online virtual training, career exploration modules, and remote career counseling.

The first step in completing the Public Health Pre-Apprenticeship Program is completion of the Introduction to Public Health in the Time of COVID training. This 3-hour self-paced training features an introduction to cultural responsiveness, public health in Colorado, HIPAA and confidentiality, and contact tracing. Also included when you register here is access to additional Career Exploration modules. There are 13 to choose from, including:

  • Nursing
  • Occupational & Physical Therapy
  • Medical Records
  • Behavioral Health
  • Respiratory Therapist
  • Medical Assistant
  • Medical Lab Science
  • Dental • Surgical Technology
  • Radiologic Technology
  • EMT/Paramedicine
  • Sterile Processing • Nutrition

After completing the Introduction to Public Health in the Time of COVID training and at least 1 of these Career Exploration modules, you will have the opportunity to complete one 30-minute career counseling session. Completing these three elements constitutes completion of the Public Health Pre-Apprenticeship Program and you will receive a $100 Amazon gift card!

Who can participate?

All those who are 18 and older! The Public Health Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a resourceful career exploration program for both those who are just beginning their careers or those looking to make a career change and would benefit from free, virtual career counseling.

What’s the cost?

The program is free and hosted entirely online.

What’s the career counseling session like?

Program participants will have the opportunity to discuss education or career opportunities both within or outside health-related fields and seek advice for resume building, networking, job seeking strategies and making connections with employers on LinkedIn. This session is conducted remotely by phone with an emphasis on exploring how to apply the existing skills of program participants with new career opportunities.

Additional Perks!

All participants who complete the Public Health Pre-Apprenticeship Program will receive a $100 Amazon gift card following completion of their career counseling session. Participants will also have the option to complete a free Basic Life Support (BLS) certification course.

Additionally, participants who complete the free Public Health Pre-Apprenticeship Program, free Basic Life Support (BLS) certification training, and all 13 free Career Exploration Modules may qualify to earn free Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) college credit. The PLA credit would be applied towards the Introduction to Health three college credit course which could be applied towards a health care certificate or degree program. Potential to earn PLA college credit may be discussed during the career counseling session.

This free pre-apprenticeship program is a partnership with the Rocky Mountain Public Health Training Center (RMPHTC) and Trailhead Institute on behalf of the Colorado Public Health Workforce Collaborative, the Colorado Community College System (CCCS), Arapahoe Community College (ACC) and the Community College of Denver (CCD).
