ACC String OrchestraThe Arapahoe Community College Music Department proudly presents a concert by the ACC String Orchestra (directed by Rene Knetsch) on Monday, May 2, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Waring Theatre.  EVENT PROGRAM

This concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature a Chinese rapper, a Japanese piece for flutes and string orchestra, and a tango.

Writers Studio at Arapahoe Community College will host a Progenitor release party on Tuesday, May 3, beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the Colorado Gallery of the Arts at ACC.

Join the staff and contributors of Progenitor, ACC’s Art and Literary Journal, for the unveiling of the 2016 edition.  Enjoy readings from this year’s authors and artists, and pick up a copy of the 2016 edition of Progenitor.  Refreshments will be provided.

Arapahoe Community College's 2016 commencement ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 14, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Orchard Road Christian Center at 8081 E. Orchard Road in Greenwood Village.

Plenty of seating will be available, and graduates are encouraged to invite as many guests as they would like.  Tickets are not required, and the ceremony typically lasts about 90 minutes.  Additional instructions will be sent to graduating students the week before the ceremony.

This year's featured speaker will be John Hall, and the student speaker will be Stephanie Swiler.

John HallHall is now in his 12th year as a full-time faculty member in ACC’s Multimedia, Graphic Design & Illustration program.  Hall, who was selected as the 2015 ACC Faculty of the Year, also garnered Distinguished Faculty honors in 2011-12.  A co-sponsor of Progenitor (ACC’s art and literary journal), Hall also serves on ACC’s Marketing Advisory Board and Adult-Learning Focused Institution Task Force.  Furthermore, Hall is a Studio ACC mentor (MGD Department’s internal internship program) and a Co-Chair for the MGD 2:2 State Discipline.  Hall, who also taught as an adjunct at ACC between 1995-04, earned his BFA (concentration: Graphic Design) from Colorado State University in 1982.  He and his wife, Terry, have one daughter (Emily Lundberg – 26) and two sons (Scotty – 22, Adam – 20).  Hall’s hobbies include crafts (wood, fabric, screen printing, hand lettering), the outdoors (hiking, cross-country skiing) and traveling with his family.

Stephanie Swiler`Swiler began taking classes at ACC in the fall of 2013, completed her degree requirements (AAS - Medical Laboratory Science) in the fall of 2014, and participated in the May 2015 Commencement Ceremony.  During her time at ACC, Swiler earned three separate scholarships from a single essay - ASCLS-CO/CACMLE/CLMA, Kaiser Permanente and Mark Hopton.  Swiler has been employed at Banner Health - North Colorado Medical Center since 2003.  She passed her boards and was hired into her current role as a medical laboratory technician early in 2015.  Swiler is currently studying for her American Association of Bioanalytics (AAB) board exam as she pursues continued career advancement at Banner Health.  Originally from Sturbridge, Massachusetts, Swiler resides in Evans, Colorado, with her husband, John.  The couple has a son (Brad, 24), a daughter (Tasha, 22) and a grandson (Devon, 6).  Swiler enjoys the outdoors and hiking with her family.  Her hobbies include crocheting, belly dancing and writing.
