Javon's career in higher education has been intentionally focused on student success and supporting students in achieving their academic and personal goals.
For the past several years Javon has worked in the Colorado Community College System at Community College of Aurora and Community College of Denver in various progressive administrative roles. These experiences have contributed to his current leadership role at ACC as Dean of Students. Javon values this experience because the reason he works in higher education is reflected in his title- "students".
Additionally, he has worked with students from over 80 countries in the community college setting including serving at two Hispanic Serving Institutions. He is committed to equity and closing achievement gaps. He served as an adjunct instructor and taught students success courses for low income, first generation and differently-abled students. He believes that as higher education professionals we must be equipped with high levels of cultural competence.
Javon is engaged in several community and professional organizations. In all of Javon's work in higher education, he has intentionally sought opportunities that intersect with all facets of the campus, and he is deeply committed to collaboration and working across departments to develop innovative ways to help students meet their academic and personal goals.
