Literatura Hispana is September 16Arapahoe Community College will host Literatura Hispana: Celebrating Colorado's Hispanic Authors on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Library and Learning Commons.

Each year, Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the cultures of the Hispanic and Latino Americans residing in the United States.  This year, the ACC Library and Learning Commons, Student Affairs and Writers Studio will honor the literary contributions of our Hispanic and Latino authors with readings by Colorado poet Sheryl Luna, kid/teen writer Denise Vega and mystery novelist Manuel Ramos.

A brief reception with refreshments will follow the readings.  This event is free and open to the public.

The Blue Bench (formerly RAAP) will present about sexual assault prevention.  The Blue Bench is metro Denver’s only comprehensive sexual assault prevention and support center.  Since its founding in 1983, The Blue Bench has worked tirelessly to eliminate sexual assault and diminish the impact it has on individuals, their loved ones and the community.

Released in 1965...the hills are alive with The Sound of Music!  Escape for a night with your family and friends at ACC's showing of the classic film.  This event is free and open to the public.

A bake sale (50 cents per item) will be held during the movie, and proceeds will be donated to the ACC Student Emergency Fund.  Please consider making and donating Rice Krispy treats, brownies, cupcakes, cookies, etc.  Items should be wrapped individually.  Baked goods may be dropped off at the Student Affairs Office (Room M2820) on or before Sept. 18.

The Arapahoe Community College Astronomy Program will host four "star parties" during the Fall 2014 semester.  Observe the night sky at the Littleton Campus (West Lawn; between the Main Building and Lot G) on Sept. 12, Oct. 17 and Nov. 7, and at the Parker Campus on Sept. 18.

Star parties will be held in an open house format from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., and attendees are welcome to arrive at their convenience.  ACC will provide a telescope at the star parties, which are free and open to the public (no RSVP necessary; please dress appropriately for these outdoor events).  Complimentary hot cocoa and cookies will be served.

Gateway Battered Women's Services, the only agency specifically serving victims of family violence in Arapahoe County and the city of Aurora, will be at ACC on Tuesday, Sept. 23, to present about intimate personal violence.  The presentation will begin at 2:30 p.m. in Room M4750.
