Tuition classification is governed by state law (Colorado Revised
Statutes 23-7-101, et seq.,1997.) That applies to all public institutions
of higher education in Colorado. ACC does not have discretion to make exceptions to the rules as defined by state law.
Non-resident tuition represents the cost of your education
at public institutions. When a student is classified as a Colorado
resident for tuition purposes, income-tax payers of the State of
Colorado pay the differences between the non-resident and resident
tuition.
To qualify for in-state tuition, you (or your parents or legal
guardian if you are under 23 years of age and not emancipated)
must have been domiciled in Colorado for 12 consecutive months
prior to the beginning of the semester. Emancipation means
complete self-support and financial independence. Marriage is an
automatic act of emancipation. You must be married for at least
one year to be considered emancipated. Domicile for tuition
purposes is determined by two factors: 1) Your ability to show a
permanent place of residence in Colorado, and 2) Your ability to
demonstrate your intent to remain in Colorado.
If petitioning residency, return completed petitions
to Information Central no later than ten class days after
the first of the semester. Petitions received after that date will
not be considered for that semester.
Active Duty Military may be eligible for resident tuition rates
if you are on permanent military duty in Colorado. You must submit the appropriate documentation each semester you attend
ACC. For details contact the Admissions and Records Office.
Comprehensive information on tuition classification and petitions
is available at Information Central or by calling 303.797.5621.
