Testing Center Mission Statement

To provide a wide variety of relevant examinations in a professional, secure, and positive testing environment that promotes academic and professional success to our students, employees, and community.  We adhere to the NCTA Professional Standards and Guidelines.

 ACC offers three different types of testing:

Instructional Testing is available for students who need to take make-up tests and any telecourse or on-line class tests where the student may need a proctored environment. No appointment is required except for those who have disability testing accommodations.  Plan ahead during peak periods of mid-terms and finals.  Call 303-797-5808 with any questions. 

ACCUPLACER Placement Testing is mandated by Community Colleges of Colorado Board Policy for community college students who are either:

Students seeking a degree, including continuing students who switch from unknown to degree-seeking; and/or enrolling in college-level English or math.

To take an assessment test, visit the Testing Center in Room M2210. No appointment is necessary for ACCUPLACER testing unless you are taking this assessment for another college.  The cost for taking the ACCUPLACER is $10 for ACC students on their first attempt or $25 for students taking the test for another college. Checks or cash only are accepted for payment on Saturdays . Monday-Friday credit card payment is available. Retesting policy is as follows- After your first Accuplacer you may test a second time as early as the next day.  Any additional testing has a wait period of thirty days. The first time you test the cost is $10 for ACC students but additional testing is $10 per section for each section for which a retest is taken.  You may be exempt from the Accuplacer if you have ACT, SAT, or prior college classes that are high enough.  For an evaluation of your scores please fax them to- 303-797-5086.  You may also e-mail them to testingcenter@arapahoe.edu

Basic criteria for exemptions are as follows-

ACT English 18 ACT Reading 17 ACT Math 19  Scores must be less than five years old.

SAT Verbal/Critical Reading 440 SAT English 460 SAT Math 500  Scores must be less than five years old.

Prior college class work will be accepted if you have a grade of C or better.  Examples are English 121 or 122, Math 121, Bio 111.  Some classes have an expiration date and can't be used.

GED Testing for students planning to take the High School Equivalency Examination. The ACC Community Education Department offers GED preparation classes.

  • Hobet - $35 proctor fee
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Go to www.toefl.org to schedule appointments
  • NET (HESII) - $40 proctor fee
  • ECE (Early Childhood Education) - $35 proctor fee offered in February, June and October.
  • CLEP (The College-Level Examination Program) gives students of any age the chance to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. 2,900 colleges grant credit and/or advanced standing for CLEP exams.  Get college credit for knowledge you already have!
    Cost for the CLEP exam is $80 plus $35 to proctor the exam. CLEP exams are free to military service members. CLEP is available by appointment only. Call 303.797.5808.
  • Dantes gives students the opportunity to test for college credit similar to CLEP.  $35 proctoring fee along with a payment of $80 directly to Dantes.  Go to www.getcollegecredit.com for additional information on Dantes.

To satisfy a CLEP or Dantes proficiency requirement you need to:

  • Demonstrate you've already mastered the content of, for example, a basic math or language course. Great for dual degree candidates or students just a few credits shy of graduation.
