Heidi Ochoa has been selected as ACC’s 2017-18 Student Employee of the Year.
Ochoa has served as a Peer Tutor in the ACC Student Success Center for six semesters, providing her fellow students with resources and strategies for studying, organization, test-taking and time management. Ochoa, who began her studies at ACC in the fall of 2014, also assists with scheduling various study sessions and tutor training.
Ochoa prepares prospective Nursing students for the HESI exam and is a member of ACC’s Sigma Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She is a Supplemental Instruction Leader for BIO 111 and has helped to develop accessible documents for the Health Information Technology program.
A recipient of The Clue Room STEM Scholarship, Ochoa qualified for the President’s List in the fall of 2017 (4.0 term GPA). She is pursuing her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (ADN) at ACC and is dual-enrolled at CU Denver for her BSN.
Upon obtaining her Registered Nurse license, Ochoa hopes to be hired into a critical care or intensive care unit. She aspires to earn Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN) and Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) certification and plans to eventually enroll in a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) program in pursuit of opportunities in education or advanced nursing (e.g., nurse practitioner).
Originally from San Leandro, Calif., Ochoa also holds a position as a Nursing Student Extern at Porter Adventist Hospital. She enjoys spending time with her husband and dogs.
