Charles Haarhues has received numerous commissions for both electronic and acoustic compositions. His works have been performed in the United States, Greece, Japan, and Costa Rica. In addition, he is a jazz guitarist and has performed traditional African drumming with Abubakari Lunna and Gideon Alorwoyie. Haarhues has appeared on the Oscar Sulley recordings Snows of Kilimanjaro (also serving as co-producer) and The Fish and the Shrimp (also serving as recording engineer). His compositions have appeared on several recordings including Tweak (New Tertian Recordings) and LSU Composers Forum with the Louisiana Sinfonietta and Soloists (Magni Records).
This ranges from utilizing current recording, synthesis, and sequencing technology to composition, jazz guitar, and exploring the music of the various cultures of the world. Combining all these interests is often challenging but always rewarding.
I'm a dedicated swimmer so I try to get in the pool 3-5 times a week depending on my schedule. My wife is Japanese so I'm also involved in a lifelong project to become fluent in the language. This has given me great respect for all international students who come to the USA and have to deal with life using a new language.
