Speech Lab

Here's what ACC Students have to say about the Speech Lab:

“The speech lab is a more technologically advanced version of practicing your speech in front of your mirror or friends. But Arapahoe Community College provides the speech lab to give their students a quiet and secluded place to practice their speech alongside their visual aids and then later watch themselves on video."

"The speech lab is a very unique opportunity for students who are in speech classes to evaluate themselves after they have given a speech. Also, I think many people are uncomfortable giving a speech to themselves...[it] is a great idea to put those people outside of their comfort zones. If you're uncomfortable practicing a speech to yourself then how can you ever expect to become comfortable speaking in front of others?"

The Speech Lab is located inside the Open Computer Lab, Room M1650.

The lab's purpose is to provide a place where students can practice and record their speeches. Equipment provided includes a podium with a built-in monitor and computer, so students can load in PowerPoint presentations and see them as they speak. A flat screen monitor is mounted behind the podium, and the video camera is positioned so the screen is included in view in your recording. Students must provide their own flash drive to save their speech.

Assistance in using the lab is provided by eLearning staff, or by an Open Computer Lab employee.

The lab is available Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Time is reserved in 30-minute slots.
