Ron Stern

After retiring in 1990 from law enforcement, Ron and his family moved from southern California to Ft. Collins, Colorado where his interests turned to travel and travel writing. Ron became a travel columnist for several news syndicates including the San Diego Community Newsgroup and the Women’s Newspaper Group. His freelance work has been published in Shape, Mobil Travel Guides, La Jolla Today, Voyaging and many others.

 Ron served as the Media Coordinator for the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) for five years and also as the Editor-in-Chief of, an online travel ezine. His contributions have been noted by PBS, Mobil Travel Guides and his photography has been used extensively by entities like the Jordan Tourism Board. Ron travels extensively and is the author of five other books. He currently resides in Ft. Collins, Colorado, with his wife and two children.

Ron’s love of travel has led to various speaking and teaching opportunities. His most popular talk, Fly Cheap, Stay Cheap, Travel Cheap, has been presented to thousands of people at libraries, senior centers, banks, and the REI flagship store in Denver. He also teaches classes on travel writing at Colorado Free University and Front Range Community College.

Ron received his A.A. from Pierce Jr. College in Woodland Hills, CA and completed one year of law school in California.
