Reader’s Theatre

Improve Your Reading from a Shoe Box

Build reading skills with a shoe box! If your middle-school reader skips words with three or more syllables and is not reading at grade level, this reading workshop can help! Explore the six syllable structures, how to break words apart, and the most common vowel sounds students encounter when reading.  Make a shoe box full of note cards with key words to remember.  Please bring a shoe box and a package of note cards to class.  Students should be reading at a minimum 3rd grade reading level.

Sign Language Level l

This is an overview of American Sign Language (ASL), its basic vocabulary, structure, syntax and grammar. Students will focus on mastering the basics of finger  spelling, numbers, colors, facial grammar and sentence structure; students will also learn conversational/cultural behaviors necessary to hold a beginning-level conversation in ASL, with deaf/hard-of-hearing native users of the language. Introductory information about deaf culture will also be presented, along with deaf humor, to provide students with a broad picture of language and culture.

Sign Language Level ll

A continuation of basic aspects of American Sign Language (ASL) taught in ASL 1101--its basic vocabulary, structure, syntax, and grammar. Students will continue to focus on fingerspelling, numbers, facial grammar and sentence structure. Students will also further develop the conversational/cultural behaviors necessary to hold a beginning-level conversation. More challenging examples of Deaf humor will be presented as well as additional cultural information to aid student development of awareness of and appreciation for the unique linguistic relationship between language and culture among those deaf /hard-of-hearing individuals who use ASL to communicate.

American Heart Association: CPR

American Red Cross CPR training classes give you the information and the skills you need to help adults, children and infants during breathing and cardiac emergencies. This hands-on skills training prepares you to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. It also teaches the skills and knowledge needed to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).The class can teach Adult CPR/AED, Child CPR/AED, and/or Infant CPR/AED (any combination of the three).

Getting ready to get a job and earn money in the field of babysitting? Learn what to do in an emergency, how to administer first aid, and what is needed to keep a child safe.
