Charlotte Mattsson-Smith

When her stint as an au pair with a Colorado family ended, Charlotte Mattsson-Smith chose to enroll at ACC rather than move back to her native Finland.

Mattsson-Smith, 21, has felt at home here.

“ACC has helped me Do More than I ever expected when I first walked through its doors,” she says. “I’ve studied for a major I love, met people I would have never met and had amazing opportunities.”

She will graduate in Spring 2010 with an Associate degree in business management. Her dream: to have a career in event planning.

She’s been an assistant in the Student Affairs Office, former president of the International Club and a member of Student Government and Phi Theta Kappa.

“By being involved, I feel as if I am getting more out of my education than just facts and figures,” she says.

Because of her involvement, Mattsson-Smith was selected to speak at the Spring 2009 commencement. Her message: “Remember the friendly and accepting atmosphere at ACC.”

“Everyone accepts you — no matter your age, gender or nationality. I want to encourage people to keep that spirit when they leave ACC.”
