Parent Resource Information
Dear Parents and Family Members:
Welcome to the ACC community! Whether your student is in high school and exploring colleges or already part of the ACC community, the following information will be helpful.
Students come first at ACC! Our goal is to make the transition from high school to college a smooth one for all. You can help with this transition by encouraging your student to:
- Get involved and participate in the clubs, activities and events we have on campus. This is a great opportunity to make friends with students who have the same interests, meet teachers, find mentors, and just feel "connected."
- Learn the policies and procedures to navigate college life (see the Student Handbook, academic calendar) the catalog and information section in the front of the Class Schedule.
- Read e-mails from ACC. Each student’s college-assigned e-mail address is the primary method we use to notify students about important dates, deadlines and events. Students should check their accounts regularly.
- Learn about the many resources offered at ACC -- tutoring, mentoring, advising, fitness center , career planning services, financial aid, the library, and much more!
- Ask questions. Students grow by learning to self-advocate. Encourage your student to handle his or her college affairs by talking to a faculty or staff member. We are invested in our students’ success and anxious to provide all the support they may need to succeed.
FERPA, (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) protects the privacy of education. When a student reaches the age of 18 or begins attending a post secondary institution regardless of age, FERPA rights transfer to the student. This means that only the student can authorize access to his or her student record or academic progress. Parents no longer have a right to access the records of adult students without their written consent.
Any time you have questions or concerns about your student or ACC, we encourage you to contact us or encourage your son or daughter to see their advisor. Even though FERPA restricts us from sharing some information with parents, we are able to provide guidance to help you find answers to your questions.
