HathiTrust This collection of over 3.2 million searchable ebooks contains government publications and many older books, an ideal source for historical research and for locating documents which originated with the federal government.  (Be sure to check “full view only” when you conduct your search.)

Directory of Open Access Books This collection of over 1,000 fully searchable scholarly e-books is growing quickly.  This source returns results suitable for academic research papers.

Open Access Publishing in European Networks This small, but growing, collection of e-books contains works published by academic presses in Europe.  Both English and non-English books are included.  This source returns results suitable for academic research papers.

Public Broadcasting Corporation This site contains thousands of PBS documentaries, series and specials on a wide array of subjects of interest to researchers and intellectuals.  The service allows for free streaming video.

Open Culture.com This site indexes and makes searchable the course materials from thousands of quality online university courses.  This is an excellent for persons who desire to participate in life-long learning, but who cannot take formal classes.

Youtube.edu This special section of Youtube is limited to academic presentations, many of which were created by universities and university professors. This is excellent for professors and instructors to use to supplement their lectures.
