It is the practice of CPD to distribute crime alerts and bulletins informing the campus community when a crime of a serious nature occurs or one that is considered to represent a threat to students and employees.

Law Enforcement Authority and Interagency Relationships

The Campus Police Department is located in the Main Building, Room M2600. The office phone number is 303.797.5800. If you are reporting an emergency and there is no immediate answer call 9-911.

The Arapahoe Community College Police Department consists of eight full-time police officers and two police communication technicians. The Department is dedicated to teamwork under the direction of the Campus Police Chief. The Department reports directly to the Executive Vice President (303.797.5703).

The campus police officers receive their police authority by the provisions of the Colorado Revised Statutes, Title 24, Article 7, Part 1. The campus police officers are certified Level 1 Colorado Peace Officers and hold a commission with Arapahoe Community College. The officers are armed and have full police authority on all properties owned and controlled by the College and have authority within the City of Littleton as stated in the Mutual Aid Agreement between the Littleton Police Department and the Arapahoe Community College Campus Police Department. The Department is delegated the authority and responsibility to protect the lives and property of everyone on college property. In doing so, the campus police officers are obligated to enforce Federal, State laws, municipal codes and College rules and regulations.

Training

All campus police officers undergo an extensive selection process and meet State mandated training requirements. The campus police officers must successfully complete a certified law enforcement academy of at least 860 hours of training that has been approved by Colorado's Peace Officer Standard and Training Board. The officers must successfully complete a FTO training program under the supervision of a Field Training Officer and other experienced officers. This training covers among other things, security and crime concerns specific to the College environment. The officers receive year round in-service training, relevant to their duties, in conjunction with the Littleton Police Department. Finally, newly hired officers are on a one-year probationary period. The Campus Police Department uses Littleton Police Department dispatch center after hours. The Department also shares a direct phone line with the Littleton Police Department, which allows for fast, efficient coordination of services when needed.
