ACC Announces New Transfer Agreement with Metro State for Human Performance Majors

(December 19, 2007 - Littleton, Colo.) Arapahoe Community College and Metropolitan State College of Denver have signed a transfer agreement that will enable students to complete nearly half of a Bachelor of Arts in Human Performance and Sports with ACC's Human Performance coursework.

Those who earn ACC's Associate of Applied Science in Human Performance or MSCD's B.A. in Human Performance and Sport are prepared for career opportunities in health and personal training, sports management, education, nutritional counseling, sports rehabilitation and corporate, clinical, leisure and recreation settings.

"While those who complete our degree program have the experience and training for immediate employment, this transfer agreement opens up even broader career horizons and salary potential," comments ACC Human Performance Program Coordinator Sophie Mabry.

The transferable courses include: HWE 111 Health and Fitness; HWE 136 Skills and Methods of Teaching Weight Training; PER 232 Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries; HWE 245 Exercise Physiology; HWE 237 Exercise, Nutrition, Body Composition; HWE 248 Exercise Testing and Prescription; HWE 122 Responding to Emergencies; HWE 100 Human Nutrition; PTA 175/176 Anatomical Kinesiology-lecture/lab; HWE 230 Sport and Exercise Psychology and HWE 255 Certified Personal Training Preparatory Course. Courses with a "C" or better will transfer.

ACC's Human Performance program is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the scientific and psychological foundations of movement, exercise and health. Students receive instruction in cardiovascular and strength training, health appraisals/assessments, exercise prescription, behavior modification, sport nutrition, equipment use and function, exercise psychology/safety as well as wellness concepts including smoking cessation, stress management, physical activity and weight management. Students complete a 150-hour internal practicum and receive practical hands-on experience in the College's fitness center.
