King, Jr.’s Legacy
People from across metro-Denver are invited to attend Littleton’s
Ninth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast Celebration to
be held at Arapahoe Community College on Monday, January 15. This

The event will be emceed by former Littleton City Council Member
and African American/civil rights issues advocate Shirley Harris.
The keynote speaker at this year’s breakfast is Grammy award-winning
pianist and noted national author and lecturer Daryl Davis. In 1997,
Davis authored “Klan-Destine Relationships: A Black Man's
Odyssey in the Ku Klux Klan.” Davis will discuss his experience
gaining insight in the workings of the Ku Klux Klan and the minds
of its members. He will also talk about his view that that a true
and lasting solution to racism in the United States is neither political
nor legislative, but spiritual.
The breakfast and program will begin at 9 a.m. in the second floor

At 10 a.m., the celebration of Dr. King’s legacy will move

Dr. King’s memory will be presented and remembrances of his
1964 visit to Littleton will be shared. Dr. King was instrumental
in advancing civil rights in metro-Denver and this region was cited
in his celebrated “I Have A Dream,” address, where he
proclaims, “Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of
Colorado!”
