College International Dinner Celebrates Cultures
(October 12, 2007, Littleton, Colo.) The Spring International Language Center at Arapahoe Community College invites the public to its 27th annual International Dinner. The dinner will celebrate college and community cultures on Friday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the ACC Cafeteria, 5900 South Santa Fe Drive in Littleton. Guests will sample cuisine from more than 25 countries as they select from an array of tables lining the cafeteria. Dishes ranging from Japanese sushi to Middle Eastern lamb stuffed with rice will be served by international students and community residents.
Following the dinner, the Zebra Marimba band will play music from Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. The cultural context of the group's style of music comes from rhythms of the Shona tribe of Zimbabwe. The band includes seven marimbas ranging in size from the tiny sopranino marimba to the giant bass that requires a two-foot stool for the player to be tall enough to reach the keys. The instruments were hand built by a Nederland artist and craftsman, Max Krimmel. Drums, stringed instruments, gourd shakers and African costumes are added to the mix. Student entertainment will be interspersed with the professional musicians.
Admission to the dinner is one ethnic or American dish to serve 8-10 persons. For more information, contact Missy Hull or Connie Shoemaker at 303.797.0100.
