Arapahoe Community College's Sci Quest Club Invites Public to: Free March 29 Lecture About the Mysteries Surrounding the Assassination Russia's Last Royal Family and April 11 Plant Sale Featuring Botany from the ACC Greenhouse and Local Merchants

Mysteries Surrounding the Assasination of Russia’s Last Royal Family
On March 29 from noon to 1 p.m., Arapahoe Community College’s student science club, Sci Quest, invites the public to a free lecture it is sponsoring which will use scientific evidence to examine the mysteries surrounding the assassination of the last czar of Russia, his family and servants including information about what almost happened after this event. The lecture will be presented by Vickey Trammell, a scientist who has researched the matter. It will take place in Room 3130 of ACC’s Main Building, 5900 S. Santa Fe, in the Science Lecture Hall.

“This lecture is for anyone who is fascinated by investigations, likes Russian history or wonders if Anastasia the daughter of last Czar Nicholas II survived,” suggests Sci Quest student and co-organizer Jamie Chang. Trammell will talk about the events that led up to the assassination of the royal family and servants, their burial, and, many years later, the exhumation of nine of the eleven victims. In an effort to find the last two skeletons, a number of scientists from the Denver area were asked to help. Trammell was one of them.

Trammell became involved with the mysteries surrounding the assassination through her involvement with NecroSearch, a non-profit organization that specializes in the search for clandestine grave sites. She joined NecroSearch in 1989 as a botanist, soil sifter and general searcher.  The NecroSearch also works to assist law enforcement agencies via applied research, training and on-site investigations.

Trammell has over 30 years experience as a field botanist, ecologist and college teacher.  She joined the faculty of Arapahoe Community College in 1972 where she taught botany, ecology, biology and anatomy and physiology.  Although she “retired” in 2002, she continues to teach on part-time basis.  Trammell's research interest involves plant distribution in relation to the geology, and past use history.  She has done community mapping and rare plant lists for start parks.

Sci Quest’s Spring Plant Sale

Arapahoe Community College’s student science club, Sci Quest, will hold its Spring Plant Sale on Wednesday, April 11 on the second floor of ACC’s main building, 5900 S. Santa Fe Drive by Starbucks.  The sale will feature botany from ACC’s greenhouse as well as plants from local merchants, students, faculty and staff.  Dr. Gene Chapman of ACC’s Biology Department, who is also a talented classical guitarist, will provide entertainment.

For more information about these Sci Quest events contact Jamie Chang at 720-255-9153.
