ACC Sponsoring Cultural, Educational Adventure to Mexico

Guanajuato

(August 29, 2007 - Littleton, Colo.) Anyone interested in spending 15 days immersed in the colonial Spanish/Mexican culture of Guanajuato, Mexico, should sign up for a learning adventure being coordinated by Arapahoe Community College's Community Education program. The learning adventure runs September 29-October 12 and is guided by Authentic Mexico, LLC. Those who sign up for the experience will enjoy access to evening cultural events, walking trips, ballet performances, student minstrels, chamber music and salsa dancing all the while immersing themselves in the rich life and setting of this Mexican community.

An informational meeting regarding the trip is being held Tuesday, September 4 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the main building of ACC's Littleton Campus at 5900 South Santa Fe Drive.

Additionally, participants will study Spanish in a locale that has been designated by the United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a "World Heritage Site." They will also get lots of real-life Spanish language practice during a home stay and walking trips around Guanajuato, a university town. Guanajuato is also the birthplace of artist Diego Rivera, whose house is now a museum.

The Don Quijote Language School (DQLS) will provide small group instruction at the level of each participant. "Guanajuato is the ideal spot in Mexico to study Spanish, being a small and quiet university city (comparable to Granada and Salamanca in Spain) and far from the tourist cities (such as Cancún or Cuernavaca)," say Pedro Rodrqguez, the head of studies at DQLS. "You will be charmed by its wealth in architecture and culture. As regards your personal safety, please do not worry. Guanajuato is 99.9% safe," he adds.

Additionally, participants will have a chance to visit museums, Mexican pottery/exhibitions/workshops and historic sites that showcase the jewels of Mexico. A fun weekend visiting the popular Mexican town of San Miguel de Allende is an additional optional part of the total experience.

Guiding participants through this experience will be Patsy Jaynes and Marianna Cusick. Jaynes and Cusick have been leading these tours for over a decade. The tuition for this program is $1,900 plus airfare. If interested, please contact Patsy Jaynes at patsyjaynes@gmail.com or 303.697.5053 ASAP. Tuition is due entirely by September 15.
