Douglas County High School Students and Parents Invited to Learn More about a Health Care Option to Earn Credit Toward Their Diploma and College Degree Simultaneously
(March 31, 2007 – Douglas County, Colo.) Students in Douglas County School District (DCSD) High Schools and their parents, who are interested in learning more about a program that enables the simultaneous earning of credit toward a high school diploma and a college degree by taking health care courses, are invited to an “Open House.”
This “Open House,” information session will occur April 18 at 7 p.m. in the Main Building of Arapahoe Community College’s (ACC) Littleton Campus, 5900 S. Santa Fe. Drive. Eligible students include those who attend Castle View, Chaparral, Douglas County, Highlands Ranch, Mountain Vista, Ponderosa, Rock Canyon and Thunder Ridge High Schools
The “College-Ready Initiative in Health Care,” (CRIHC) program is a collaborative effort between ACC and DCSD that enables students to begin their college education while still in high school. “Health professions are one of the fastest growing career segments in the nation,” says ACC Health Careers Development Director Sue Treitz. “This program provides an opportunity to explore careers and college level work.”
In Academic Year 2007-2008, the CRIHC will consist of a three-credit course entitled “HPR 178-Medical Terminology” offered during the Fall Semester and a two-credit course named “HPR 106-Law & Ethics for Health Professions,” offered during the Spring Semester of next year. Both courses will be taught at ACC’s University Center at Chaparral, located just three miles south of I-25 and Lincoln in western Parker at 15653 Brookstone Drive.
