For First Time Ever: ACC Offering College Courses at Castle View High School

 

(May 30, 2007 – Castle Rock, Colo.)  Starting June 11, for the first time ever, Arapahoe Community College is offering people who live in and around Castle Rock, and beyond, college courses at Castle View High School. Three courses will be offered during the Summer semester, including: Introduction to Business; English Composition I and College Trigonometry. The three courses are part of the Community College Statewide Guarantee Transfer Agreement which ensures they will transfer to any Colorado public college or university if a grade of “C” or better is earned.

“We are pleased to make these higher education opportunities available in Castle Rock,” remarked ACC President Dr. Bert Glandon. “This is a great opportunity for any community member who needs a college-level business, English or math course, from adults of any age to traditional college-aged students looking to meet a course requirement while they are home over the summer.”

BUS 115-Introduction to Business, is a three-credit course that surveys the operation of the American Business System. This includes: the fundamentals of the economy; careers and opportunities; marketing; management; production; governmental regulations; tools of business; and, social responsibilities. This course meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:50 a.m. until 12:20 p.m. from June 11 through August 6.

ENG 121-English Composition I, is a three-credit course that emphasizes the planning, writing and revising of compositions. The course aims to further develop the student’s critical and logical thinking skills. ENG 121 includes a minimum of five compositions that stress analytical, evaluative and persuasive/argumentative writing. As a prerequisite to taking ENG 121, students must have completed ENG 090 with a “C” or better or take the Accuplacer placement test and score 95+ in Sentence Skills and 80+ in Reading. This course meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:25 p.m. until 2:55 p.m. from June 11 through August 6.

MAT 122-College Trigonometry, is a three-credit course that covers topics including: trigonometric functions; identities and equations; solutions of triangles; complex numbers and, other topics. This course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:50 a.m. until 12:20 p.m. from June 12 through August 2.
