Arapahoe Community College’s Weber Center for Learning Resources offers Free Classes

(January 25, 2008 – Littleton, Colo.) Arapahoe Community College’s Weber Center for Learning Resources (ACC’s library) is holding a series of 6 free one-hour long “Topical Research Classes.” These informative classes, which are open to the public, will be offered Monday, February 11 through Tuesday April 22, 2008. The Weber Center is located on the second floor of ACC’s Main building at 5900 S. Santa Fe Drive in Littleton.

“Any community member can attend, without having to register at the college, any of these classes which will feature professional librarians showing you ‘how to’ conduct research within a different discipline each week,” says ACC Librarian Ann Priestman.

Upcoming sessions are as follows: Monday February 11- How to Start a Business, Tuesday February 26 -Competitive Intelligence, Monday March 10 - Legal Resources, Tuesday March 25 - Investing Tools and Resources, Monday April 7 - How to Get Published, and Tuesday April 22 - Travel.

“Our professional library staff at ACC are some of the best librarians I’ve ever worked with,” states Malcolm Brantz MLS, MBA Library Director. If someone can’t make the specified time, they are invited to stop by the reference desk at any time and they will be given an individual session.

“Many people aren’t aware that our library is a public library and offers a plethora of powerful research tools,” said Priestman. “Through these classes attendees will learn how to use these tools to conduct sound research.” The research tools include: OPAC, ACC’s Online Public Access Catalog, including the new AquaBrowser feature; ProQuest, an index to 2,000 journals, including many full text with an ability to search peer reviewed journals; EBSCOhost, six databases with an index to more than 6,000 journals, including Academic, Business, Regional Business, and more; NewsBank, a full-text Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, New York Times and regional newspapers; Statistical Universe, statistics from the Federal Government, United Nations, World Bank, IMF, and others; Encyclopedia Britannica Online, articles, Web sites and other quality resources; OCLC FirstSearch, over 40 subject databases and 100 full-text journals; CQResearcher: Comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news; Fact on File, a service that provides access to Issues and Controversies, an in-depth investigation of today’s top issues and Today’s Science, news written especially for students; and, NetLibrary, a repository of 7,200 electronic books.
