LITTLETON, Colo. (Mar. 13, 2014) – Arapahoe Community College students Heidi Spurgeon and Danielle Talbert have been named to the 2014 Phi Theta Kappa All-Colorado Academic Team.
Spurgeon and Talbert were recognized at a ceremony and luncheon at the Denver Athletic Club on Mar. 12.
Spurgeon began her career at ACC in the fall of 2012 and will graduate in May 2014 with her Associate of Arts (General). During her time at ACC, Spurgeon has earned recognition on the Dean’s List and the President’s List. She served as Secretary for the Student Government and held two different VP positions (Public and Community Relations, Communications) with ACC’s Sigma Phi Chapter. Spurgeon, who graduated from Arapahoe High School, intends to continue her education at the University of Missouri – St. Louis (Studio Art – emphasis in Art Education). She aspires to teach art, travel and earn a Ph.D. (Art or Linguistics).
Talbert enrolled at Arapahoe Community College in the summer of 2011 and graduated with her Associate of Science (Psychology emphasis) in December of 2013. A native of Denver and graduate of Englewood High School, Talbert earned recognition on the ACC President’s List in the fall of 2012. Talbert, who currently works as the Assistant to the Area Regional Manager at Advance America, plans to study biology while continuing her education at the University of Colorado Denver.
Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society for two-year colleges, is the largest honor society in American higher education. The Sigma Phi Chapter at ACC was chartered in 1968 and has inducted more than 3,500 members since its inception. Sigma Phi has retained its "Five Star Chapter" status for over 15 years. Dr. Fida Obeidi and Heather Wilcox serve as the Sigma Phi Chapter co-advisors at ACC.
