Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame Member to Speak at ACC

A member of the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame will speak at Arapahoe Community College for Women’s History Month on Tuesday, March 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Half Moon in the Main Building.

The speaker, Lily Nie, was inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame in 2008. According to information on the Hall of Fame Web site, Nie was born in Yingkou, China. In 1987, she came to the United States and learned English from a couple who were raising four adopted children. This couple inspired her to pursue her vision of helping abandoned children.

Nie and her husband founded Chinese Children Adoption International. The organization is the largest China-only adoption agency in the world. She also is the founder of the Chinese Children Charity Fund which raises money to feed and care for children in Chinese orphanages. In 1996, Nie opened the Joyous Chinese Cultural School in Littleton to teach adopted children their native language and culture.

At her presentation at ACC, Nie will talk about the challenges she has faced throughout her life because of her gender and ethnicity. She will share her passion and determination that led to the success she has had with her organizations, which now have helped thousands of children find loving homes in the United States.

The presentation is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided. The Main Building at Arapahoe Community College is located on College Drive between Sumner and Nevada Streets, just east of Santa Fe Drive in Littleton, CO. The Half Moon is located on the first floor near the west entrance.
