ACC Writers Studio Presents Flash Fiction Workshop

Where is the novel headed? The Writers Studio at Arapahoe Community College will sponsor a workshop on flash fiction and the flash novel next Monday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. Called “The Upstarts of Fiction: Flash Fiction and the Flash Novel,” the workshop will be in M4760 in the Main Building at ACC. 

Nancy Stohlman, a flash fiction novelist and publisher, and award-winning novelist and flash fiction writer William Hayward Henderson will present the workshop. The two will discuss writing and publishing the novel—flash and otherwise. The event is free and open to the public.

Nancy Stohlman’s first novel, Searching for Suzi: a flash novel (Monkey Puzzle Press, 2009), Flash Fiction Author Nancy Stohlmanintroduces the “flash novel” genre, an amalgamation of the novel, the novella and flash fiction. Stohlman is the co-founder of Fast Forward Press, a press dedicated to flash literature, where she co-edits the yearly flash fiction anthology, Fast Forward. Her first book, Live From Palestine (South End Press, 2003), was nominated for a Colorado Book Award in 2004. She received her master’s degree in fine arts in creative writing from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics.

William Haywood Henderson is the author of Native (to be reissued this year), The Rest of the Flash Fiction Author William Haywood HendersonEarth, and Augusta Locke (finalist for the Mountains & Plains Booksellers Award, the Spur Award and the Willa Award). He was a Wallace Stegner Fellow in Creative Writing at Stanford University, and he holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and Brown University. He has taught creative writing at Brown and Harvard, and he currently teaches novel writing at Lighthouse Writers Workshop, a non-profit creative writing school in Denver.

The Main Campus of Arapahoe Community College at 5900 S. Santa Fe Drive in Littleton is on the east side of Santa Fe at College Drive just south of historic downtown Littleton. M4760 is located on the fourth floor of the Main Building.
