How do I apply to Arapahoe Community College?
What is the deadline for admissions?
Students may be admitted to the College in the Fall, Summer or Spring semesters.
Admissions are done on a rolling basis; the recommended deadlines are July 1 for Fall and December 1 for Spring admissions and May 1 for Summer.
Some programs, such as Pharmacy Technician, Medical Lab Technology, Nursing, Law Enforcement, Medical Office Technology, Mortuary Science and Physical Therapist, have additional admissions requirements. Please see Departments and Programs on our Web site homepage.
When is the last date to register?
The last day to register and all other important ACC dates, appears in our printed Schedule of Classes and on the Web site http://www.arapahoe.edu/schedule/class-schedule.html.
Do I have to take the ACT or SAT?
NO, however, if you have ACT or SAT scores, and/or have an Associate, Bachelor or Master degree, that information can replace the requirement for the computerized placement scores.
How will I know if I have been accepted into ACC?
After completing an application, students are notified via e-mail that they have been accepted at ACC. This e-mail will also contain the student’s identification (ID) number, which is used to register for courses as well as for many other purposes. The student’s ID number is NOT the student’s Social Security number. When completing the online application form, please be sure to list a current, working e-mail address so we can get this important information to you.
I work full-time, are there courses available to me?
You bet! ACC offers day and evening on-campus classes to accommodate your busy schedule. If getting to campus is difficult for you, we also offer distance learning opportunities such as online classes and satellite campuses.
What do I need for proof of residency?
The ACC Admissions Office determines your residency at the time you complete your College application, based on the information you provide during the application process. Some determining factors are:
If you are at least 23 years of age, you must have documentation showing you have had physical presence in Colorado for at least one year prior to the first day the semester begins. Examples of documentation include: A Colorado driver’s license, or motor vehicle registration in your name, or proof of paying Colorado state income taxes.
If you are under 23 and not emancipated, the residency information you provide us will be based on your parents or legal guardian to determine your residency.
If you are under 23, but emancipated from your parents or legal guardian, you will need to complete a Petition for In-state Tuition Classification form.
If you (and/or your parents or legal guardian) are currently Colorado residents, and have been for one year, and the system has recorded you as a non-resident, contact the Admissions and Records Office for assistance at 303.797.5621.
Do I need to take placement tests?
Yes, unless you can show proficiency through ACT or SAT scores, or prior college learning ( Associate, Bachelor or Master degree). As a new student, you will be given an Accuplacer tests to assess your level of skill in Reading, English and Math. The scores you receive on theses tests are designed to provide you and your advisor important information useful in planning your schedule of classes.
Where can I print a copy of my schedule, see my tuition bill or change my contact information?
Each of these tasks can be accomplished by logging into MyCommunity EDUCATION, located on the ACC home page, www.arapahoe.edu. You will need your Student ID number and your PIN number.
What is the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF) stipend?
COF is a way for in-state students to pay less for their college education. Colorado subsidizes in-state tuition for residents through COF, but you must apply to receive this benefit. COF is not a loan or financial aid.
How do I apply for graduation?
Students must apply to graduate from ACC by the application deadlines proceeding each semester. Instructions to apply for graduation can be found at the Graduation and Commencement Web page. Graduation applications are also available from Information Central. After you submit your application, you will receive a degree audit via e-mail, which will list the courses you have remaining to complete your degree or certificate.
How do I apply to the Nursing Program?
Go to www.cccs.edu, and select “Nursing Program” (in the left-hand column of choices). On the Nursing Program Homepage, select “Application Process” and read that entire page. Select the link to the Nursing Program Application located in Step 6.
After you have completed the online nursing program application, making sure to select Arapahoe Community College as your first choice, you will then be notified by the ACC nursing program (via the e-mail address submitted in your application). The ACC nursing program will then direct you to complete a Questionnaire. This questionnaire and a copy of your transcripts determines if you meet the criteria to obtain a wait list number.
If you have questions about the Application Process, please call the nursing program at 303.797.5939.

The Academic Advising office is also involved in student outreach and retention programs such as Learning Communities and the Early Alert program. For information on days and times Academic Advisors are available to meet with you, please call 303.797.5664 or e-mail advising@arapahoe.edu
What can I expect from an Academic Advising appointment?
- Registration information
- Discussion about your degree or certificate program and your academic goals
- Discussion of ACCUPLACER (formerly CPT) test results
- Resource and referral information
- Review of courses taken at ACC and transferred to ACC
- A conversation with an Advisor about how you are progressing
Do I need to meet with an Advisor every semester to register?
No. However, meeting with an Advisor can help to ensure that you achieve your educational and professional goals in a timely and cost-effective manner. Even if you schedule a short appointment to confirm that you are preparing to register for the correct courses, your time will not be wasted. It is better to be safe than sorry!
What don’t Academic Advisors do?
Advisors do not tell students which courses to take, choose a major for students or follow up with students on a daily basis.
How do I choose a degree or certificate program?
Degree and certificate programs can be chosen based on a personal or professional interest. ACC offers 130 degree and certificate programs. If you are not sure which degree or certificate program to begin, schedule an appointment with an Advisor to review your
options. If you are planning to transfer to a four-year college or university an Advisor can help you choose the degree program that will best fit your educational goals.
What are Developmental Studies courses?
Developmental Studies courses provide students with rapid skill development to help them be successful in college. These courses are for students who have not been in school recently; want help with reading, writing and math; want to build confidence; or upgrade workforce skills.
How do I declare my major?
You may use the "Student Declaration of Major Form" located at our Web site, http://www.arapahoe.edu/applyregister/forms/declaration-major.pdf.
What should I do if I can’t decide which degree or certificate program to choose right now?
If you are undecided about a degree or certificate program, meet with an Academic Advisor to review the courses that are part of the statewide Guaranteed Transfer Program. Meeting with an Academic Advisor can help you plan your courses so that you do not delay your graduation from ACC or admission in to another institution.
What is a credit hour?
A credit hour is a measure of completed college work. Usually colleges give one credit hour for each hour of class time spent during the week. For example, MAT 121 (College Algebra) is a 4-credit course, therefore, you can expect to spend approximately 4 hours per week in your MAT 121 course. The more credits a course is worth, the more time and focus you can expect to spend on that class.
How many credit hours are considered “full time?”
Twelve credits or more in a semester is considered full time.
What is the maximum number of credit hours I may take in one semester?
You may register for no more than 18 credits per semester. You can register for more than 18 hours in one semester by submitting a “Petition for Course Overload” form, available at Information Central.
What do “prerequisite” and “corequisite” mean?
A “prerequisite” is a course you must complete before registering for certain courses. For example, PSY 101 (General Psychology I) is pre-requisites for PSY 235 (Human Growth and Development). Pre-requisites are identified in the Course Descriptions section of the College Catalog.
A “corequisite” is a course you must complete at the same time you are taking another course. You must sign up for both courses in the same semester if a co-requisite is listed. Co-requisites are identified in the Course Descriptions section of the College Catalog.
How do I know how many credits I should take per semester?
Generally, the answer depends on how much time you have outside of class to devote to your schoolwork. For every one credit hour you are enrolled in, you can expect to spend 1.5 – 2 hours per week outside of class working on material for that class. For example, for a three credit course you should expect to commit 4.5 – 6 hours per week to that class in addition to the regularly schedule class time. If you work full-time and/or have children to care for, you should make
allowances in your weekly schedule to accommodate your out-of-class commitments. We recommend you schedule an Advising appointment to discuss your options by calling 303.797.5664.
What is “Add/Drop”?
This term refers to adding or dropping a class to your current schedule of classes. You may Add or Drop a course during the first 15% of the course term. Look for specific dates in the ACC Schedule of Classes. Schedule Adjustment Forms (Add/Drop Slips) are available at Information Central at the Main Campus or go on-line to “MyCommunity EDUCATION,” under the Registration Menu. In order to determine if you should receive a refund after dropping a course, refer to ACC’s refund policy under the Tuition and Fees section of the College Catalog.
How do I drop a class?
Start at the ACC Web site, www.arapahoe.edu. Select “MyCommunity EDUCATION,” then login on the LOGIN screen. To drop a class, select Student Menu, then Registration Menu, then Add or Drop a Class. Follow the prompts to select and drop a class.
Be sure to print a copy of your detailed schedule to confirm that you dropped the course.
Will I automatically be dropped from a class if I stop attending?
No. If you stop attending a class ACC will not automatically drop you from the class roster. You must actively Drop a class before 15% of the class term has been completed. Dropping a class entitles you to a full tuition refund (minus the Registration Fee). If you do not attend the class and fail to satisfy course requirements, you will receive a grade of “F” for the course.
What does it mean to “Withdraw” from a course?
You can Withdraw from a class after 15% of the class term has been completed and before 80% of the class term has passed. You can Withdraw from a course by using the MyCommunity EDUCATION link on the ACC home page, by calling the Admissions Office or going to Information Central. A “W” grade will appear on your transcript for all official withdrawals. Refunds are not given for Withdrawals.
How will a “W” affect my transcript?
It will not affect your credit or cumulative GPA. Instead of receiving a grade for the course, a “W” will be listed on your ACC transcript.
What do “academic probation,” and “academic suspension” mean?
A cumulative GPA lower than 2.0 will place a student on “academic probation.” A student who has completed at least 13 cumulative credit hours at ACC must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. Transfer credits from other institutions will not be calculated in your ACC GPA. The probation process involves meeting with an Academic Advisor during each semester of the probation. Probation remains in effect until the student’s ACC cumulative GPA reaches a minimum of 2.0.
