The ACC Psychology Club will host guest speaker Captain Attila Denes from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday, May 7, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Room M4010. Captain Denes will present on the Crisis Intervention Training (C.I.T.) program in Colorado.
C.I.T. is an intensive hands-on training program for police officers, who are now the most common point of first contact for people with mental illnesses. The skills in the C.I.T. program allow police officers to intervene more appropriately in situations that involve issues with mental illness. C.I.T. programs around the country have been proven to be successful in increasing the safety of both police officers and civilians in highly-volatile situations involving persons with mental illness.
