Do the pre-requisites need to be completed to apply for a waitlist number?
Yes. ENG 121, PSY 235, BIO 201, BIO 202 and BIO 204 must be completed, with grades posted on the student’s Arapahoe Community College transcript, to apply to the nursing program. The five courses must be a 2.5 GPA and the Biology courses must be completed within seven years at the time of application.
How much does the program cost?
The cost of the nursing program is approximately $13,000 to $15,000 including tuition, books, fees and lab fees, liability insurance fees, testing fees, student uniforms, immunizations, certifications, criminal background check, and random drug screens. Personal health insurance may also be required.
What is a typical schedule like?
The nursing program is full-time, days. Students are typically on-campus three to four days per week from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students attend four full-time semesters as a cohort group and are told each semester the classes for which to register. There are no lecture classes during the summer semester. A schedule may include lecture classes two days per week and two clinical shifts per week.
Clinical shifts may be 8, 10 or 12 hours and may be days or evenings, any day of the week. Some clinical shifts may occur in the summer semester. The schedule for clinical shifts is subject to last-minute changes. Clinical shifts are scheduled at a variety of area health care facilities.
Is it possible to work while I am a student in this program?
The nursing faculty strongly recommends working no more than 20 hours per week (for students with 3.0 GPA, less hours for students under 3.0 GPA) while in the nursing program. We advise students that working more than 20 hours a week may be problematic for many students. Flexibility in scheduling work commitments is necessary to accommodate course requirements.
How long is the waitlist?
Contact the nursing program Administrative Assistant at 303.797.5939, for updates on the waitlist.
What can I do while I am waiting to be accepted?
It is highly recommended that nursing students complete the Certified Nurse Assistant program prior to acceptance into the nursing program; however, it is NOT a requirement.
Complete the four nursing program curriculum courses: MAT 103 Math for Clinical Calculations, HPR 108 Nutrition, BIO 216 Pathophysiology, and the Humanities/Behavioral Science elective.
You may take Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) level non-nursing courses while you wait. Contact the Advising Department for a list of the courses
