Goals & Objectives: Paralegal Program
Our program has been approved by the American Bar Association since
1977. The objective of the program is to train students to become
paralegals in order to permit them to assist in effectively delivering
legal services, to advance the paralegal profession, and to maintain
high ethical standards.
While paralegals may not practice law, they work under the supervision
of attorneys in law firms, government agencies and corporations.
This objective is to be accomplished by:
- Teaching substantive areas of law and skills applicable to the
vocational requirements of a paralegal, including both theoretical
concepts and practical application, and providing training in
both litigation and transactional areas of law;
- Maintaining a high academic standard for paralegals by providing
thorough and effective instruction;
- Determing the roles and functions of paralegals in the community,
emphasizing ethical conduct and the effective delivery of legal
services within the community;
- Evaluating the needs of employers for properly trained paralegals
by maintaining contact with the legal community and determining
their training needs.
