Summer Study Program in Aix-En-Provence, France

Three Week Course in Choice of:
Art History Program
The art history class will be taught by Susan Goggin and will be
held in the classroom and on location throughout Paris, Aix-en-Provence
and surrounding areas. Instruction will cover historical, aesthetic
and contextual topics, with visits to historical sites, museums
and galleries. Course work will include keeping a journal, writing
a paper and participating in discussion about the sites and works
being viewed.
French Program
The students will attend classes in the morning (M-F) at the International
School of Language, and participate in social or cultural activities
in the afternoon. Class levels range from elementary to advanced.
Students will take a placement test upon arrival.
Painting Program
The painting class will be taught by Marsha Wooley. It will be held
on location in the city (gardens, markets, fountains and architecture)
and in the surrounding countryside (that will include famous motifs
of Cezanne). Classes will include sketching and painting, as well
as art history and critique.
Photography Program
The photography class will be taught by Trish Sangelo,
in a classroom and on location. Instruction will include history,
criticism and theory of photography. Students will have access to
ACC darkrooms upon return to Colorado.
Program Cost/What Is Included:
The cost of each program is $3,400 (approx.).
Program cost includes:
- Guided visit of Paris, of main museums and monuments
- Daytrip to Fontainebleau and Chartres
- Saturday trips in Provence to places of interest
- Instruction (5 days/week)
- Visit of museums, galleries and artists’ studios in Provence
- Exhibit of students’ works (painting and photography) in Colorado
- Lodging (double occupancy), welcome and farewell dinners
- Ground transportation in France for group travel
- Pre-trip orientation

Payment Schedule/Registration
A deposit of $1,000 ( of which $200 is non-refundable; full deposit is non-refundable if cancellation is made after April 28) is due by March 17, 2008. Remaining balance is due by April 21, 2008.
Travel Documents/Insurance/Health
You must have a valid passport, no Visa required. Individual health
insurance is required while traveling abroad. There will be travel
by train, bus, metro as well as a lot of walking.
Aix-En-Provence
One of the most beautiful cities in France, Aix-en- Provence is
ideally located: 40 minutes from the Mediterranean, 2 hours from
the Cote d’Azur or the Alps, and surrounded by beautiful countryside.
Aix has a very rich past going back to the first century B.C.
It is a town of considerable architectural and artistic interest.
Aix has been the home of many of France’s best known writers,
poets, painters, and musicians. It remains today the capital of
Provence.
Christine Khorsand is the Summer Program Director. She is the Chair
of Foreign Languages at Arapahoe Community College. A native from Aix-en-Provence, Christine
has directed the ACC Summer Study Program in France since 1993.
Admission/Registration
The Summer Study Program in Aix-en-Provence is open to everyone.
Enrollment is limited.
ACC employees can use employee scholarships to pay for tuition credits
on a reimbursement basis if approved by their supervisor.
