Writers Studio Fall 2009--Welcome Back!

Here's to the coming school year filled with literary events for our ACC student writers and surrounding community writers. Please join us for classes, workshops, readings, festivals, and contests. And consider joining our new Writers Studio Club with last spring's Writers Studio Scholarship winner, Oliver Brainerd, as president.

On September 9, we present the Writers Studio Showcase at 4:00 pm in the 2nd floor student lounge with Colorado Book Award winner Kathryn Winograd, Denver Poet Laureate Chris Ransick and history novelist and children's writer Chris Blake as the featured readers.

On September 19, we host the Columbine Poetry Festival in the Half Moon from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., featuring poet Veronica Patterson for a workshop on "Lifting the Poem Out of the Ordinary" and reading with Katherine West, Poet/Publisher of Green Fuse Books. RSVP required.

Our goal has been to create a writing community within ACC for both students and community members, and, with your help, we're doing it.

About Writers Studio

Writers Studio, a community for writers, offers creative opportunities for Colorado writers and students of all levels, from the novice to the published writer, through readings, literary contests and festivals, workshops and classes

Writers Studio offers creative writing courses and workshops for ACC students and Community Ed students, a writing credential certificate for eligible ACC students in various specializations, and an AA degree with a Creative Writing course of study. Elegible ACC students may apply for two new $500 scholarship from Writers Studio.

Now those students with a love of writing and literature can immerse themselves in a comprehensive program of creative writing and literature courses designed to nurture beginning, and experienced, writers in the craft of writing. Divided into General Education, Core Creative Writing, and Genre Specific Creative writing courses, the program encourages students to explore multiple writing genres before focusing on a specific one. Students who successfully complete the program receive an Associate of Arts degree with an emphasis/course of study in creative writing and literature courses, the Writers Studio Professional Achievement Credential, a faculty-mentored portfolio of personal work, and a public reading performance. Writers Studio features an articulation agreement with Adams State College that allows ACC students to finish out their BA degree in Creative Writing at Adams State with just 21 more credit hours. Students can then choose a second major or minor to complete the rest of their upper division course requirements.
