I have enjoyed writing since childhood when I spent many hours inventing stories. It was natural to turn my childhood passion into a career. I worked for my high school and college newspapers, and my first professional writing job was as a reporter for the Rockford Register Star in Illinois. I later worked writing for a Chicago-area public relations firm. I began teaching composition after earning a master’s degree in the mid-nineties. I love teaching writing and helping students gain confidence as writers. Also, it is a job that has worked well with being a mother to two boys. I am a voracious reader (there’s always a stack of books in my home office, by my bed, and several other places in the house). Lately, I have reverted to my early infatuation with making up stories, and I now spend as much of my spare time as possible writing fiction.
