Certificate
The Pharmacy Technician Program (PHT) will prepare students
to assist a pharmacist with the technical tasks in a pharmacy.
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician
can be employed in a variety of healthcare settings.
The program spans a semester-and-a-half and is divided
into 15 weeks of classroom and laboratory training followed
by 8 weeks of internship in both Community (4 weeks) and
Institutional (4 weeks) pharmacies. All classes require acceptance
into the program or have the written approval of
the Academic Coordinator.
A clear background check and documentation of immunizations
(2 MMRs, chickenpox, at least 2 Hepatitis B and a current TB
test) are required for the Pharmacy Internships. Individuals
already employed as pharmacy technicians can upgrade their
skills and meet continuing education re-certification requirements
of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
or receive USP 797 training by enrolling in specific courses.
