The Arapahoe Community College Law Enforcement Refresher Academy consists of two components.

  • Online academic refresher
  • Skills training

Online Academic Refresher: The focus of this portion of the academy is Colorado criminal and motor vehicle code, Colorado and U.S. Constitutional law, and ethics as it relates to the Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). This course prepares students to identify their weak areas of knowledge and directs students learning to specifically improve those areas. The online law refresher is hosted by Knowledge Factor, Inc. Students are encouraged to visit http://acclea.knowledgefactor.com/ to purchase the course directly.

Skills training: The focus of this portion of the academy is the three primary skills required by P.O.S.T.: arrest control, driving and firearms. All three skills may be taken through Arapahoe Community College’s Law Enforcement Academy.

For further information or questions regarding either component, please contact Det. John Hallsten at john.hallsten@arapahoe.edu or call (303) 797-5874.

Each component of the Refresher Academy is separate; a student can sign up for one component (either the academic refresher, all skills or certain skills) or all components. If you are confident in your skills ability, then you are welcome to sign up for only the online law refresher. Individuals who are confident in their skills ability, will need to schedule and to participate in a two-day test-out through P.O.S.T. The two-day test-out allows these individuals to take the written P.O.S.T. exam and practical exams pertaining to arrest control, firearms and driving over a two-day period. Please contact Colorado P.O.S.T. directly for questions or more information on the two-day test-out. Their phone number is (303) 866-5692 or you can e-mail: post@state.co.us.

Certification

Upon completion of the online academic refresher course, and proof of training and competency in arrest control, driving and firearms, Arapahoe Community College’s Law Enforcement Academy will issue a certificate for the completed online academic refresher and skills. While the online law refresher is self-paced, it must be completed within four months from enrollment.
