Course Objectives: The objectives of this course are to provide the students with the opportunity:
- To identify, distinguish and reproduce the sounds of Spanish
- To understand basic statements and answer simple questions in Spanish
- To express simple ideas, needs and request in a basic conversation
- To acquire a basic knowledge of Spanish grammar and syntax
- To learn more about the culture of the Spanish speaking world
Student Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this class the student at the novice-high level should be able to:
- Comprehensibly reproduce the pronunciation and intonation of the language.
- Accurately apply vocabulary and learned phrases in simple oral expressions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of vocabulary and grammar in elementary interchanges.
- Employ comprehensible grammar in writing simple statements.
- Read and comprehend basic information.
- Demonstrate an awareness of appropriate cultural behaviors in everyday situations.
