- Course Objectives:

To provide the student with the opportunity to acquire basic knowledge of French grammar and syntax.

To provide practice in basic aural, oral, reading and writing

To provide practice in simple translations (English/French – French/English).

To provide the opportunity to learn about the culture of French speaking countries and their relationship to the American culture and to the world.
- Student Competencies: Upon completion of this course, the student at the novice level should be able to:

Reproduce comprehensibly the pronunciation and intonation of French.

Understand basic oral statements, instructions and questions.

Apply accurately vocabulary and learned phrases in simple oral expressions.

Demonstrate knowledge of vocabulary and grammar in basic conversations.
