FRE 102 – Conversational French II – 3 credits

  • Prerequisite: FRE 101 or instructor permission.
  • Required materials: French In Action, the Capretz Method, 2nd ed., Yale University Press. Textbook & Workbook (part 1) and audio CDs. Copies of the CDs can be purchased from the Media Center. Chapters 10 through 18 of the textbook and workbook will be covered in this course.
  • Student Competencies: Upon completion of this course student at the novice-high level should be able to:
  1. Reproduce French pronunciation and intonation with increased accuracy
  2. Understand oral statements, instructions, and questions
  3. Accurately apply vocabulary and learned phrases in simple oral expressions
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of vocabulary and grammar in elementary interchanges
  5. Employ comprehensible grammar in writing simple statements
  6. Read and comprehend simple information
  7. Demonstrate an awareness of appropriate cultural behaviors in everyday situations
