Developmental English

Vision Statement: To provide all learners basic academic skills that serve as a foundation for achieving educational, career, and personal goals

The overall goal for developmental studies courses at ACC is to offer a wide range of learning-centered activities that:

  • Develop in each learner the skills and attitudes necessary for the attainment of academic, career and life goals
  • Ensure proper placement by assessing each learner's level of preparedness for college coursework
  • Maintain academic standards by enabling learners to acquire competencies needed for success in mainstream college courses
  • Increase student retention

Maybe your writing skills are a bit rusty...

Maybe you need to brush up on your grammar...

Maybe you’ve always had trouble with writing and English...

Our Developmental English courses are designed to

  • assess your writing
  • spot where you need to improve
  • and help you gain the skills and confidence you need

What Happens Next

Deciding which Developmental English course is for you:

  1. Your first step is to take the Accuplacer test in the Testing Center on the 2nd floor of the Main ACC Building. You’ll receive a print-out of your scores immediately after you finish the test, and your scores will go into your online school record.
  2. You will receive a scoring sheet from the Testing Center telling you which Developmental English course is right for you, based on your scores.
