Green Thumb Flower Workshops at The Hudson Gardens & Event Center
Enjoy the beauty of the season strolling through the beautiful gardens of The Hudson Gardens & Event Center. These classes are taught by gardening and art professionals. You may view the gardens from 4-5 pm prior to your class session. Check in at the Gift Shop and identify yourself as an ACC class participant for that day. Additionally, meet your instructor 10 minutes prior to the class start time at the gazebo located in front of the gift shop at the main parking area. Classes are held in the Hudson Residence, a one-story home located northwest of the gazebo.garden tools

Mile High Magic:
Plant What Grows in the Rocky Mountain Region

If you are a beginning gardener or novice who has experienced frustration gardening in our wonderful climate with our not so wonderful soils, this class is for you. Learn the basics of gardening in the Denver area and the skills necessary to become an enthusiastic gardener. Discuss soils, amendments, appropriate plant material (perennials, annuals, shrubs, vines, trees) both native and non native. Be prepared with materials and information to better equip you to enjoy successful gardening in the Rockies.

Making Beautiful Container Gardens for Sun and Shade

Container gardens are no longer just a spike surrounded by petunias and vinca. Come see the many things you can do in a container. Yes, they can be filled with annual flowers, but you can also be adventurous and stick in some perennials or even vegetables and herbs. Get some ideas and then take a container home that you create. Bring garden cutting knife or shears, 14-16” container and potting soil.

Plant Now! Perennial Workshop

Learn how to plant perennial flowers; key places to plant on your site; how to shape your garden; how to prepare your soil (where to purchase tools and ground preparation); how to combine color, height, and texture in flowers; where to purchase nursery stock; planting procedures; and maintenance. Fresh Flower Arranging

Your garden is blooming and it is time to have fun learning the basics of arranging fresh cut flowers! Take home a fresh floral arrangement each week while experimenting with your own creativity. Learn basic design principles, how to process fresh flowers, and the best methods used to preserve the life of your arrangements. One week you design an arrangement in a vase and the next you design an arrangement in a container using floral foam. Bring cutting shears or floral knife. Materials fee includes all fresh flowers, cases, and containers.

Beginning Interior Design

Discover and learn six design fundamentals to put into practice immediately. Sketch a room to scale in order to create the best floor plan. Discuss architectural elements, color theory, lighting, and furniture style compatibility. Work on a room in your home. Learn about today’s furniture styles and colors, accessorizing, floor planning and how to stretch your budget.

Sharon Breay, ASID, NCIDQ is an awarded, certified senior design consultant; she has taught design courses for credit at three colleges and as a design lecturer at many more. She possesses the highest level as a Gold Toastmaster and speaker mentor.

Take the Do it Yourself Decorating and Painting Plunge With Faux!

In this crash course, basic faux techniques and wall texturing are introduced. This class is set up as a lecture/demonstration workshop. Come prepared to take notes. DISASTER PREPARATION
Being Prepared: Disaster Planning for Your Home
— Andrea Johnston
Take steps necessary to ensure you and your family are ready for a wide variety of natural disasters and acts of terrorism. Learn and make simple preparations that save lives in the event of a large scale emergency. Be safer and more secure immediately by preparing your home and family members for serious hazards that may occur in your community. Discuss scenarios for all hazards, “go kits” for evacuation, supplies to keep on hand, documentation and other topics. Waiting until the last minute is not the correct way to be prepared.
Andrea Johnston has helped facilitate, plan, conduct and evaluate more than 25 homeland security exercises on behalf of the US Department of Homeland Security. She has produced more than 50 exercise publications, manuals, action reports and improvement plans. Andrea received recognition from the San Diego Office of Homeland Security for enhancing protection of first responder and their families against biological threats.
