EMBROIDERY
Brazilian Embroidery: “Ima L. Teapot”

Create beautiful three-dimensional Brazilian Embroidery. Use a
variety of rayon threads to add stunning color to the small piece
(8”round) we will work on. The stitches are easy and fun
to learn and include stem, couching, French knots, bullions, cast-ons,
knotted lazy daisy and detached buttonhole. These realistic flowers
and foliage look like they are growing on your fabric! Kit will
provide everything you need to get started, including beads and
specialty threads. Bring small 6” embroidery hoop and scissors.

children’s and young adult book author, Denise Vega, learn
to improve your manuscript by looking at character and plot, ask
key questions to determine if your manuscript is ready to submit
to publishers or magazines, understand publishing terminology,
explore the types of children’s books out there and where
yours fits, how to prepare and submit a professionally formatted
manuscript to publishers, what you can expect financially, whether
you need an agent, and more.
Denise Vega is a published, award-winning author and the Co-Regional
Advisor for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society of Children’s
Book Writers and Illustrators. She has presented this and other
sessions numerous times at RMC-SCBWI conferences, libraries, CCIRA
conferences, the Colorado Teen Literature Conference, and more.

Michael and Caroline Carroll
Wear your writing hat and your painting clothes as you explore
the adventure of writing and illustrating children’s books.
The first classes will be devoted to the tricks of writing for
kids, both fiction and nonfiction. During the last part of the
course, you will focus on how to illustrate and work with the artistic

Michael and Caroline Carroll have collectively written and illustrated
nearly twenty children’s books for publishers such as Tyndale,
Zondervan, Charlesbridge and others. Caroline is a children’s
librarian at Columbine Public Library, with a background in Occupational
Therapy and women’s ministries through various churches.
Mike has illustrated magazines including National Geographic, Smithsonian,
Popular Science, and Odyssey, and has written for Clubhouse, Astronomy
and others. Caroline paints in watercolor, while Mike uses acrylics.
