Human Performance/ Exercise Health Sciences Physical Fitness Certificate offers focused instruction for current professionals wanting to update their skills and knowledge while earning continuing education credits (CEC’s) or for those preparing to take a national certification exam. The certificate can be completed in two or more semesters. Students should be aware that some of the required courses require prerequisites and specific course sequence apply.It is recommended that students seek advising from program coordinator, Sophie Mabry, to ensure success in the classroom and transferability of classes to four year schools. Background check is required for all majors and students wishing to participate in on and off campus activities. Some classes meet off campus , so allow for driving time.
Admission Requirements
- Admission to Arapahoe Community College
- ACCUPLACER sentence skills score of 95+ and an ACCUPLACER reading score of 80+ and 85+ on the mathematical score or equivalent ACT / SAT scores or appropriate prior college-level coursework to successfully complete HWE courses
- Program approval is required in order to transfer in exercise health science class credit from other institutions
- Attending a new student meeting is required of all new and perspective students in the HUP/EHS program. Call program coordinator for dates and time
- Successful completion of a criminal background check is required by the first day of class
- Specific course sequences and prerequisites apply.
- The Human Performance/Physical Fitness Specialist program expects all students in the HUP/EHS program to have access to a computer with Microsoft Word, Excel Power Point and Publisher.
- Required materials include: jump drive, calculator capable of 10 decimal points, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and professional exercise attire.

Graduation Requirements
- All major, general education and other courses required for the degree must be completed with a grade of "C".
- To graduate, students must apply for graduation and complete the graduation survey (available via myACC). (form available at www.arapahoe.edu/graduation)
- After applying for graduation, all correspondence to a student about the status of their program conferral will be sent to their student email address only.
- As a graduate of a Career and Technical Education program you will be contacted by an ACC employee in approximately six months to verify your employment information. This information gathering is a federal requirement to ensure that ACC receives certain federal funding.
